How to choose correct Transceiver for HPE switch? HPE vs HPE Aruba vs HPE BladeSystem story

  Here we would like to give the summary on how to select correct optical modules for your HP device? – HP has various lines of switches, servers, PCI cards and based on particular line in which you plan to use optical modules you would as well need to select corresponding optical modules.

 

1. HPE or HP Enterprise (need JD…type transceivers)

 

  In this HP Enterprise series popular switches are: HPE 5500EI/HI, HPE 5510 HI, HPE 5120 EI/SI, HPE 5130 EI, HPE 5800, HPE 5820, HPE 5900, HPE 5930…

2. HPE Aruba (need J… type transceivers)

 

  HPE Aruba (ex Procurve) transceivers contains sophisticated code and for 10G SFP+ we even need to use special hardware solution, which is not same as for HPE line JD… Type of modules.

Some of well-known HPE Aruba (ex Procurve) series switches are: Aruba 1820, Aruba 1910, Aruba 1920, Aruba 2530, Aruba 2620, Aruba 2626, Aruba 2824, Aruba 2920, Aruba 3810, Aruba 5400, Aruba 5406….

 

  We can notice that common thing for HPE Aruba supported optical modules are that they start with letter J… and usually are followed by number. To have a more information please kindly check below list of HP Aruba supported modules:

For HP BladeSystems transceivers we can notice distinguishing factor that their part number ends with … – B21.
