25G SFP28 10km RX-Only Transceiver Module Description

Our EDGEOPTIC 25G-SFP28-10RX is a multi-vendor compatible 25G SFP28 receive-only optical module designed for specialized monitoring and unidirectional receiving applications in 25 Gigabit Ethernet networks. The 25G-SFP28-10RX module operates as a receiver-only device at 1310nm wavelength, with data rates from 8.5 to 28.1 Gbps supporting multiple protocol standards and applications. Our 25G SFP28 RX-only transceiver utilizes PIN photodiode technology for receiving, providing cost-effective optical signal detection for network monitoring, passive optical tapping, and specialized diagnostic applications.

The transceiver features receiver sensitivity of -8.6 dBm, optimized for detecting optical signals transmitted up to 10 kilometers over single-mode fiber. The wide receiver wavelength bandwidth of 30nm spanning 1250-1610nm enables reception of various wavelengths beyond the primary 1310nm specification, making it suitable for multi-wavelength monitoring applications. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for convenience of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account receiver sensitivity and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry standards. The receive-only architecture eliminates transmit functionality, making this module ideal for passive monitoring scenarios where transmission capability is neither required nor desired.

25G-SFP28-10RX compatible RX-only module is hot-pluggable SFP28 with single LC/UPC connector as an optical interface, simplifying deployment in monitoring and diagnostic configurations. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8402, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP+ and SFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 25G SFP28 RX-only transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment. The module incorporates comprehensive DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including received optical power levels, module temperature, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface, enabling continuous monitoring of receiver performance parameters.

The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range with maximum power consumption of 1W, optimized for deployment in controlled environment data centers and telecom facilities. The PIN photodiode receiver provides reliable detection with receiver overload protection at 3.5 dBm, preventing damage from excessive optical power. The absence of FEC support indicates this module is designed for raw signal monitoring applications where error correction is handled elsewhere in the network. The wide receiver bandwidth enables flexible deployment in various monitoring scenarios including CWDM and standard 1310nm applications. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to SFP+ MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility.

Our 25G SFP28 RX-only transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards. Typical applications include optical network monitoring systems, passive optical TAP deployments, network diagnostic and troubleshooting setups, optical power measurement stations, and specialized test equipment configurations. The receive-only functionality makes it particularly valuable for security-conscious environments where unidirectional data flow is mandated, or in test scenarios where signal detection without transmission is required. The multi-rate capability accommodates both 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10.31 Gbps) and 25 Gigabit Ethernet (25.78 Gbps) signal detection, providing operational flexibility for mixed-speed network monitoring. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform rigorous quality checks before delivery including receiver sensitivity measurements, wavelength response testing, connector cleanliness tests, and SFP28 transceiver EEPROM memory data validation tests.
