25G SFP28 80km SMF Industrial Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 25G-SFP28-80I is a multi-vendor compatible industrial-grade 25G SFP28 dual-fiber optical module designed for ultra-long-haul 25 Gigabit Ethernet applications in harsh environmental conditions. The 25G-SFP28-80I module operates at 1309.14nm wavelength for both transmission and reception, with data rates from 8.5 to 28.1 Gbps supporting multiple protocol standards and applications. Our industrial 25G SFP28 80km transceiver utilizes EML (Electro-absorption Modulated Laser) technology for transmission and APD (Avalanche Photodiode) for receiving, engineered specifically for exceptional reach and sensitivity in extreme temperature environments.
The transceiver ensures a 33 dB guaranteed optical link budget with host-based Forward Error Correction (FEC) support, which determines the maximum transmission distance capabilities. Over standard single-mode fiber (SMF), the module achieves reliable transmission up to 80 kilometers, making it ideal for regional backbone networks, ultra-long-haul industrial deployments, and critical infrastructure requiring maximum reach in challenging conditions. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for convenience of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry standards. The combination of EML laser technology and APD receiver with FEC support delivers industry-leading performance for ultra-long-distance applications.
25G-SFP28-80I compatible industrial ultra-long-haul module is hot-pluggable SFP28 with duplex LC/UPC connectors as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our industrial 25G SFP28 80km transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of equipment. The module incorporates comprehensive DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface, enabling continuous monitoring of transceiver operational parameters critical for ultra-long-haul applications across extreme temperature variations.
The module operates within an extended industrial temperature range of -45°C to +85°C, with maximum power consumption of 2.5W, specifically designed for deployment in uncontrolled environments including outdoor cabinets, remote cell sites, utility infrastructure, and harsh industrial facilities. The EML laser technology provides exceptional output power from 2 to 7 dBm with outstanding extinction ratio of 8 dB minimum, ensuring superior signal quality over 80km distances even at temperature extremes. The APD photodiode receiver delivers remarkable sensitivity of -31 dBm with precise 2.1nm wavelength bandwidth, crucial for maintaining signal integrity across ultra-long spans. The receiver overload protection at -5 dBm ensures safe operation in varying optical conditions. Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3cc specifications for 25 Gigabit Ethernet, supporting both 10G Ethernet (10.31 Gbps) and 25G Ethernet (25.78 Gbps) applications.
Our industrial 25G SFP28 80km transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards. Typical applications include regional transport networks, smart grid backbone communications, oil and gas pipeline monitoring systems, mining operations spanning vast distances, railway signaling networks, and critical infrastructure requiring ultra-long reach in extreme environments. The 80km capability eliminates the need for intermediate amplification or regeneration sites, significantly reducing network complexity and operational costs in remote deployments. The multi-rate capability accommodates legacy 10 Gigabit Ethernet operation alongside native 25 Gigabit rates, providing operational flexibility for mixed-speed network deployments. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform extensive environmental testing including thermal cycling, vibration resistance, humidity exposure tests, EML bias stability verification, APD sensitivity validation across temperature range, in addition to optical parameter measurements, connector cleanliness tests, and SFP28 transceiver EEPROM memory data validation tests.
