32G FC-LWL SFP28 Compatible Transceiver Description

Our EDGEOPTIC 32GFC-SFP28-10 is a multi-vendor compatible 32G Fiber Channel LWL (Long Wavelength) SFP28 dual-fiber optical module designed for next-generation high-performance storage area network applications operating over single-mode fiber cabling. The 32GFC-SFP28-10 module operates at 1310nm wavelength for both transmission and reception, with multi-rate data support from 8.5 to 28.05 Gbps enabling compatibility with 8G, 10G, 16G, and 32G Fiber Channel protocols. Our 32G FC-LWL SFP28 transceiver utilizes DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. The transceiver ensures a 6.4 dB guaranteed optical link budget, which determines the maximum transmission distance. Over standard single-mode fiber (SMF OS1/OS2), the transceiver reliably reaches distances up to 10 kilometers, making it ideal for campus and metropolitan area SAN extensions at maximum speeds. However, distance is just an indicative parameter calculated for comfort of identification – eventually we calculate distance taking into account minimal optical budget and average attenuation of optical cabling in industry.

32GFC-SFP28-10 compatible 32G FC-LWL module is hot-pluggable SFP28 with duplex LC/UPC connectors as an optical interface. The electrical interface conforms to SFF-8402, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard SFP28 host systems supporting multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 32G FC-LWL SFP28 transceiver can be encoded to be compatible and successfully operate in different 80+ brands of storage and networking equipment. The module incorporates DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) functionality providing real-time information including transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is available via MSA-compatible EEPROM interface and enables proactive monitoring of transceiver operational parameters. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C temperature range, with appropriate thermal considerations for sustained operation in controlled data center environments.

Standards compliance includes Fibre Channel 32GFC Physical Interface specifications (FC-PI-6) ensuring full protocol compatibility across 8G, 10G, 16G, and 32G Fiber Channel speeds. The enhanced data rate of 28.05 Gbps delivers double the bandwidth of 16G Fiber Channel while maintaining the reach capabilities essential for campus deployments. The optical output power range from -5 to 2 dBm combined with -11.4 dBm receiver sensitivity provides reliable high-speed operation over extended distances. The receiver wavelength bandwidth of 100nm (1260-1360nm) ensures compatibility with various optical sources while maintaining signal integrity. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry MSA standards including SFP+ MSA specifications, though equipment with vendor-specific module validation may require custom EEPROM programming for compatibility. Our 32G FC SFP28 transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.

Typical applications include campus SAN extensions, next-generation all-flash array interconnects, disaster recovery site connections, and high-bandwidth storage network implementations. The 10-kilometer reach enables cost-effective long-distance 32G Fiber Channel connectivity without requiring amplification or regeneration equipment. The multi-rate capability accommodates mixed-speed SAN deployments, allowing seamless integration with legacy 8G, 10G, and 16G Fiber Channel equipment while supporting modern 32G speeds for maximum throughput in bandwidth-intensive storage applications. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform rigorous quality checks before delivery of our products. As a result, we conduct optical parameter measurements, high-speed signal integrity testing, connector cleanliness tests, and SFP28 transceiver EEPROM memory data validation tests.
