400GBASE-SR4 QSFP-DD Compatible Transceiver Description
Our EDGEOPTIC 400G-QSFP-DD-101 is a multi-vendor compatible 400GBASE-SR4 QSFP-DD optical transceiver module designed for short-reach 400 Gigabit Ethernet applications over multimode fiber infrastructure. The 400G-QSFP-DD-101 module employs 4-lane parallel transmission technology operating at 850 nm wavelength, with each lane transmitting at 106.25 Gbps using PAM4 modulation to achieve an aggregate data rate of 425 Gbps. This 100G-per-lane architecture delivers maximum bandwidth efficiency with reduced fiber count compared to SR8 alternatives, optimized for next-generation data center environments.
Our 400GBASE-SR4 QSFP-DD transceiver utilizes VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) transmitters optimized for 100G-per-lane PAM4 signaling, providing power-efficient optical transmission over multimode fiber with just four optical lanes. The receiver section incorporates PIN photodiodes optimized for high-speed 850 nm reception across all lanes within a 19 nm wavelength bandwidth. The module ensures a 1.8 dB guaranteed optical link budget, supporting transmission distances up to 100 meters over OM4 multimode fiber. However, distance is an indicative parameter calculated for identification purposes – ultimately we calculate reach taking into account minimal optical budget, modal bandwidth characteristics, and average attenuation of the deployed multimode fiber plant.
The 400G-QSFP-DD-101 compatible SR4 module is a hot-pluggable QSFP-DD form factor transceiver with MTP/MPO-12 APC connector as the optical interface, utilizing 8 fibers (4 transmit, 4 receive) for parallel transmission. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP-DD MSA, CMIS V5.2, IEEE 802.3db, and IEEE 802.3bs specifications, ensuring compatibility with standard QSFP-DD host systems across multiple vendor equipment platforms. Our 400GBASE-SR4 QSFP-DD transceiver can be encoded for compatibility with latest platforms from leading vendors including Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Nokia, Huawei, and other major network equipment manufacturers. The module supports host-side Forward Error Correction and incorporates CDR (Clock and Data Recovery) functionality on all electrical lanes.
The transceiver includes DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) capability providing real-time operational parameters including transmitted and received optical power levels per lane, module temperature, bias current, and supply voltage. This diagnostic data is accessible via the CMIS-compatible management interface, enabling comprehensive monitoring of transceiver health and performance. The module operates within a 0 to 70°C commercial temperature range with maximum power consumption of only 9W, delivering exceptional power efficiency for high-density leaf-spine deployments where thermal management is critical.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3db and IEEE 802.3bs for 400 Gigabit Ethernet. The transceiver achieves multi-vendor interoperability through adherence to industry QSFP-DD MSA standards, though equipment with vendor-specific module authentication may require custom EEPROM programming for full compatibility. Our 400GBASE-SR4 QSFP-DD transceiver is CE/RoHS certified and compliant with Class 1 FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety standards.
Typical applications include intra-rack and adjacent-rack interconnects, leaf-spine fabric connections, high-performance computing clusters, and AI/ML training infrastructure requiring low-latency 400G connectivity. The SR4 architecture with 100G-per-lane signaling in QSFP-DD form factor provides migration path from existing QSFP-DD infrastructure while reducing fiber utilization compared to SR8 deployments. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality verification before delivery including optical parameter measurements across all four lanes, connector cleanliness inspection, and QSFP-DD transceiver EEPROM memory validation tests.
