Multi-Vendor Compatible 100G CFP to QSFP28 Adapter Module Description

Our EDGEOPTIC CFP-QSFP28-CONV is a multi-vendor compatible 100G CFP to QSFP28 adapter module designed for high-speed network deployments requiring form factor flexibility. The CFP-QSFP28-CONV adapter converts 100 Gigabit CFP ports to QSFP28 interfaces, supporting data rates from 103.125 to 111.809 Gbps for both 100G Ethernet and OTU-4 applications.

The adapter module achieves interface conversion by re-mapping the CFP CAUI-10 electrical interface with 10x10 Gbps data lanes to the QSFP28 CAUI-4 electrical interface with 4x25 Gbps data lanes. This lane remapping provides network engineers with the flexibility to utilize 100G interfaces across equipment platforms regardless of whether they are equipped with CFP or QSFP28 module cages. Such flexibility is particularly valuable when specific optical interfaces are only available in one form factor, or when standardizing transceiver inventory across multiple equipment generations.

The CFP-QSFP28-CONV adapter supports configurable reference clock settings for different applications. For OTU-4 operation, the reference clock can be set to 174.703 MHz or 698.812 MHz, while 100G Ethernet operation utilizes 161.133 MHz or 644.531 MHz reference frequencies. This configurability ensures protocol-specific timing requirements are properly maintained through the conversion process. Note that this adapter version does not include FEC (Forward Error Correction) functionality, which may be required for certain optical interfaces such as 100GBASE-SR4.

The adapter is hot-pluggable and conforms to CFP Hardware Specification Version 1.4 on the host side and QSFP28 MSA specifications on the module side. Maximum power consumption is 5W, supplied from a single +3.3V rail. The module operates within standard 0 to 70°C temperature range, appropriate for controlled data center environments with adequate airflow.

Full DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) pass-through is supported, enabling real-time monitoring of inserted QSFP28 transceiver parameters through the CFP Management Interface. Network management systems can access transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, and supply voltage information for comprehensive operational visibility.

Standards compliance includes CE marking, RoHS certification, and adherence to both CFP MSA Management Interface specifications and QSFP28 MSA requirements. This dual compliance ensures reliable interoperability across diverse network equipment from multiple vendors.

Typical applications include 100G data center interconnects, carrier backbone networks, and enterprise deployments where equipment standardization requires consistent transceiver form factors across different platform generations. The adapter enables flexible network architecture designs without being constrained by equipment-specific module cage configurations. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality testing including electrical interface validation, thermal characterization, and mechanical inspection before delivery of our products.
