Multi-Vendor Compatible 100G CFP2 to QSFP28 Adapter Module Description

Our EDGEOPTIC CFP2-QSFP28-CONV is a multi-vendor compatible 100G CFP2 to QSFP28 adapter module designed for high-speed network deployments requiring form factor conversion with minimal power overhead. The CFP2-QSFP28-CONV adapter converts 100 Gigabit CFP2 ports to QSFP28 interfaces, supporting data rates from 103.125 to 111.809 Gbps for both 100G Ethernet and OTU-4 applications.

The adapter module provides direct electrical interface mapping between CFP2 and QSFP28 form factors, both of which utilize CAUI-4 signaling with 4x25 Gbps data lanes. This native electrical compatibility results in exceptionally low power consumption of only 0.25W maximum, significantly lower than CFP-based adapters that require lane remapping circuitry. Network engineers benefit from the flexibility to utilize QSFP28 optical transceivers in equipment originally designed for CFP2 modules, enabling transceiver standardization and access to the broader QSFP28 product ecosystem.

The CFP2-QSFP28-CONV adapter is hot-pluggable and conforms to CFP2 Hardware Specification Version 1.0 on the host side and QSFP28 MSA specifications on the module side. The mechanical design accommodates the dimensional differences between CFP2 and QSFP28 form factors while maintaining proper electrical connectivity and thermal characteristics. The ultra-low power consumption makes this adapter particularly suitable for high-density deployments where thermal management is critical.

Full DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) pass-through is supported through the CFP2 Management Interface, enabling real-time monitoring of inserted QSFP28 transceiver parameters. Network management systems can access transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage information for comprehensive operational visibility and proactive maintenance.

The module operates from a single +3.3V power supply within the standard 0 to 70°C temperature range, suitable for deployment in controlled data center and carrier network environments. The minimal power dissipation reduces cooling requirements and allows operation even in densely populated chassis configurations.

Standards compliance includes CE marking, RoHS certification, and adherence to both CFP2 MSA and QSFP28 MSA requirements. This dual compliance ensures reliable interoperability across diverse network equipment from multiple vendors. Note that this adapter does not include FEC functionality, which may be required for certain optical interface applications.

Typical deployment scenarios include 100G data center interconnects, service provider transport networks, and enterprise backbone applications where equipment utilizes CFP2 module cages but operators prefer to standardize on QSFP28 transceivers. The adapter enables flexible network architecture designs and simplifies spare parts inventory management by allowing a single transceiver type to serve multiple equipment platforms. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality testing including electrical continuity verification and mechanical inspection before delivery of our products.
