Multi-Vendor Compatible QSFP28-SFP28-CONV Adapter Module Description
Our EDGEOPTIC QSFP28-SFP28-CONV is a multi-vendor compatible QSFP28 to SFP28 adapter module designed to enable smooth migration from quad-lane 100G ports to single-lane 25G or 10G optical transceivers. The QSFP28-SFP28-CONV adapter converts QSFP28 ports to accept SFP28 modules, supporting data rates from 10.31 to 25.78 Gbps for both 25G Ethernet and 10G Ethernet applications.
The adapter module provides cost-effective network migration flexibility by allowing lower-speed SFP28 or SFP+ transceivers to operate in 100G QSFP28 ports. A 100G QSFP28 port supports four electrical lanes capable of either 4x25 Gbps (QSFP28) or 4x10 Gbps (QSFP+) operation. The QSFP28-SFP28-CONV adapter utilizes the first lane of the QSFP28 interface, enabling single-lane 25 Gbps operation with SFP28 transceivers or 10 Gbps operation with SFP+ transceivers. This approach is particularly valuable when high-capacity equipment has available QSFP28 ports but certain connections require only 25G or 10G bandwidth.
The QSFP28-SFP28-CONV adapter is hot-pluggable and plugs directly into standard QSFP28 cages, presenting an SFP28 receptacle for transceiver insertion. The electrical interface conforms to QSFP28 MSA with SFF-8436 specifications on the host side and SFP28 MSA with SFF-8431 specifications on the module side. Maximum power consumption is only 0.25W, making this adapter suitable for high-density deployments where thermal management is critical.
Full DDM/DOM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) pass-through is supported, enabling real-time monitoring of inserted SFP28 transceiver parameters through the QSFP28 host interface. Network management systems can access transmitted and received optical power levels, module temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage information for comprehensive operational visibility and proactive network maintenance.
The module operates from a single +3.3V power supply within the standard 0 to 70°C temperature range, suitable for deployment in controlled data center and enterprise network environments. The adapter is CE and RoHS certified, confirming electromagnetic compatibility and environmental compliance requirements.
Standards compliance includes IEEE 802.3by for 25G Ethernet, IEEE 802.3ae for 10G Ethernet support, and adherence to QSFP28 MSA, SFP28 MSA, and SFF-8431 requirements. This comprehensive compliance ensures reliable interoperability across diverse network equipment from multiple vendors.
Typical deployment scenarios include data center infrastructure upgrades where high-capacity leaf switches with QSFP28 ports must connect to servers with 25G NICs, mixed-speed deployments requiring flexible bandwidth allocation, and network designs where 100G aggregate capacity is not required on every port. The adapter enables optimal port utilization and cost-effective network design by providing 25G or 10G connectivity through 100G-capable ports.
The multi-rate capability supporting both 25 Gigabit Ethernet at 25.78 Gbps and 10 Gigabit Ethernet at 10.31 Gbps provides operational flexibility for mixed-speed network deployments and future bandwidth upgrades. Because our focus is providing top quality service, we perform comprehensive quality testing including electrical interface validation and mechanical inspection before delivery of our products.
