The 25G-AOC-SFP28 features point-to-point configuration with SFP28 connectors on both ends, utilizing embedded fiber optic technology to deliver reliable high-bandwidth connectivity up to 100 meters for server-to-switch interconnects, inter-row connections, and distributed infrastructure deployments where 25G has become the standard server connectivity speed.

The cable supports data rates from 10.31 to 25.78 Gbps, accommodating both current 25G deployments and backward compatibility with 10G infrastructure. For Ethernet deployments, the cable handles 25G Ethernet at 25.78 Gbps, providing the optimal balance between bandwidth and cost that has made 25G the dominant server connectivity tier in modern data centers. The multi-rate capability ensures compatibility with various network equipment and enables flexible deployment scenarios during infrastructure transitions.

The 25G-AOC-SFP28 operates at 850nm wavelength, utilizing VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) technology for transmission and PIN photodiode for receiving. The embedded multimode fiber supports distances up to 100 meters over OM3 fiber, providing significant reach advantages over copper alternatives which are typically limited to 7 meters for passive DAC or require active electronics for extended distances. Because the optical fiber is permanently terminated within the cable assembly, there are no exposed fiber connectors to clean or protect, simplifying installation and reducing maintenance requirements compared to traditional optical patch cables with separate transceivers.

Active optical cables offer inherent immunity to electromagnetic interference, making them ideal for environments with significant electrical noise such as adjacent to power distribution units or in dense server clusters. The lightweight and flexible construction allows for easier cable routing in congested pathways and reduced airflow obstruction compared to copper bundles, which is particularly valuable in high-density server deployments where thermal management is critical.
