Arista compatible QSFP-100G-DR Description
EdgeOptic's QSFP-100G-DR compatible is an Arista-coded version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-SL500 multi-vendor 100GBASE-DR transceiver. It is a single-lambda 100G PAM4 QSFP28 module for 500m links over duplex single-mode fiber, built to IEEE 802.3cd 100GBASE-DR, the 100G Lambda MSA, and the QSFP28 MSA. Arista also lists a QSFP-100G-DR-AR ordering variant; verify your exact part number against the Arista transceiver compatibility guide before ordering.
On the transmit side the module maps four 25G NRZ host channels (CAUI-4) into one 100G PAM4 optical lane; on the receive side it reverses that conversion. The transmitter uses an EML laser at 1310nm, within the 1304.5 to 1317.5nm band; the receiver is a PIN photodiode. A duplex LC/UPC connector terminates the link. It runs at 106.25 Gbps for 100G Ethernet, with a 3 dB optical budget that covers the 500m reach. Operating temperature is the standard 0 to 70°C range, power draw is up to 4.5W, and DDM/DOM reports live optical diagnostics.
Forward error correction is handled inside the module. The RS(544,514) KP4 FEC runs on the module DSP on the optical side, so host-side FEC stays disabled for this single-lambda PAM4 link. Because the module presents the same 4x 25G NRZ host interface as legacy QSFP28 optics, it plugs into any Arista 100G QSFP28 port, and it can serve as one 100G lane of a 400GBASE-DR4 breakout, where an IEEE 802.3bs 400GBASE-DR4 port fans out over MPO-to-four-LC to four 100GBASE-DR modules, each carrying one 100GBASE-DR lane as defined in IEEE 802.3cd. It uses a single 1310nm PAM4 optical lane and cannot connect to multi-lane formats such as 100GBASE-LR4, PSM4, or CWDM4, which use different wavelength plans and lane counts.
The QSFP-100G-DR fits ISP, mobile operator, and data center core networks where a 500m single-lambda DR hop is the right tool. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the module is encoded with Arista-recognized EEPROM. Frequently Asked Questions
Does the QSFP-100G-DR compatible need an unsupported-transceiver command on Arista EOS?
It depends on the switch model and EOS version. Some Arista platforms require enabling third-party transceiver support before they accept non-Arista-branded optics. Check the behaviour for your specific platform and EOS release against Arista's transceiver documentation, and contact our sales team if you need the EdgeOptic EEPROM coding details for your deployment.
