Arista compatible QDD-400G-FR4 Description
QDD-400G-FR4 is Arista's part number for a 400GBASE-FR4 QSFP-DD -- qualified for 7050X4, 7060X4, 7060X5, and 7800R3 platforms. EdgeOptic's compatible comes pre-programmed with Arista-recognized EEPROM. Don't confuse it with the Juniper QDD-400G-FR4 -- same part number, different vendor, different EEPROM coding, not interchangeable. Specify Arista when ordering from EdgeOptic.
Four CWDM wavelengths -- 1271, 1291, 1311, 1331 nm -- PAM4 at 106.25 Gbps per lane. LC duplex into OS2 single-mode fiber, 2 km max reach. 4.0 dB optical budget, TX -3.3 to +3.5 dBm, RX sensitivity -7.3 dBm. Under 11W. EML transmitters and PIN photodiode receivers. Full 400GBASE-FR4 specifications on the root product page.
Validated for Arista 7050X4, 7060X4, 7060X5, and 7800R3 -- all 400G-generation switches with QSFP-DD ports. Older platforms like the 7050CX3 are 100G-era hardware and don't have QSFP-DD slots at all. KP4 FEC (RS(544,514)) is required, and Arista EOS enables it by default on 400G interfaces. No manual FEC configuration needed in most deployments.
Arista EOS checks transceiver EEPROM at insertion. EdgeOptic's Arista-coded compatible carries vendor-recognized identifiers, so EOS accepts it cleanly -- no unsupported-transceiver alerts in the system log. DOM is fully accessible: TX/RX power, temperature, bias current, voltage through standard EOS show commands. EOS also supports per-lane optical power monitoring on 400G QSFP-DD ports, which helps isolate a specific CWDM lane issue during troubleshooting.
Same part number, two different vendors. Both Arista and Juniper sell a "QDD-400G-FR4" -- optically identical (400GBASE-FR4, IEEE 802.3cu), but EEPROM is vendor-specific. An Arista-coded module won't work on Juniper hardware and vice versa. Specify the switch vendor when ordering from EdgeOptic so the correct EEPROM is programmed. Getting this wrong means the switch won't recognize the module.
At PAM4 400G, dirty connectors cause more damage than at 10G or 100G NRZ. A contaminated LC endface can consume 1 to 2 dB of the 4.0 dB budget -- half the margin lost from a single dirty connector. Always inspect and clean ferrules before installation. Keep a fiber scope and cleaning kit on hand, especially in high-density racks where connector handling is frequent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Arista QDD-400G-FR4 compatible work on 7050CX3 switches?
No. The 7050CX3 is 100G-era hardware without QSFP-DD ports. Compatible platforms: 7050X4, 7060X4, 7060X5, or 7800R3.
Is the Arista QDD-400G-FR4 the same module as the Cisco QDD-400G-FR4-S?
Same optical standard (400GBASE-FR4) but different EEPROM coding. Not interchangeable. EdgeOptic programs the EEPROM for the specified vendor.
Why does connector cleanliness matter more at 400G FR4?
PAM4 uses four amplitude levels instead of two (NRZ), so the signal is much more sensitive to optical noise. A dirty LC endface can add 1-2 dB of loss against a total budget of only 4.0 dB. Inspect and clean every time.
