Arista compatible QSFP-100G-XSR4 Description
EdgeOptic's QSFP-100G-XSR4 compatible is an Arista-coded version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-100 multi-vendor 100GBASE-SR4 transceiver, one universal short-reach QSFP28 module coded for multiple vendor codes. It runs 100G Ethernet over four parallel 850 nm VCSEL lanes at 25G each across multimode fiber, terminated on an MTP/MPO-12 (UPC) connector using 8 active fibers, 4 transmit and 4 receive. The transceiver port is female (unpinned); the patch cable is the pinned male side, so a transceiver-to-transceiver link uses a male-to-male Type B cable. Reach is 70 m over OM3 and 100 m over OM4, per IEEE 802.3bm Clause 95.
Arista markets the QSFP-100G-XSR4 as an extended-reach SR4 variant rated to 300 m over OM4 and 170 m over OM3, beyond the standard 100GBASE-SR4 reach; XSR4 (also labeled ESR4 by some vendors) is an Arista-defined extended-reach designation, not an IEEE standard. The EdgeOptic compatible is the standard 100GBASE-SR4 build and is a direct substitute for the 100 m OM4 SR4 application. Deployments that need 100 m to 300 m OM4 extended reach should contact EdgeOptic sales for extended-reach options, and FEC configuration beyond 100 m should be verified against Arista documentation. Both share the same 850 nm VCSEL optics, MPO-12 connector, and 4x25G NRZ PMD.
Optical specifications include a 1.9 dB average link budget, receiver sensitivity of −10.3 dBm per lane, NRZ modulation, and no FEC at the optical PMD level. The transmitter uses 850 nm VCSEL lasers; the receiver is a PIN photodiode. DDM/DOM is supported, so the host can read live per-lane optical power and bias along with module temperature and voltage. The module operates across the 0°C to 70°C commercial temperature range at 3.5 W and complies with the QSFP28 MSA, SFF-8636, and SFF-8665. This is a 100G Ethernet short-reach optic; it does not carry Fibre Channel, OTN, or SONET traffic. Works on Arista switches with 100G QSFP28 ports; verify the specific model and EOS release against the Arista compatibility matrix before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Arista QSFP-100G-XSR4 and QSFP-100G-SR4, and does the EdgeOptic compatible cover both?
The QSFP-100G-XSR4 is Arista's extended-reach variant rated to 300 m over OM4 and 170 m over OM3, while QSFP-100G-SR4 is the standard 100 m OM4 part. Both use the same 850 nm parallel multimode SR4 optics over an MPO-12 connector. The EdgeOptic compatible is built to the standard 100GBASE-SR4 reach (100 m OM4 / 70 m OM3) and is a direct substitute for the 100 m SR4 application. For runs between 100 m and 300 m on OM4, contact EdgeOptic sales for extended-reach options and verify any FEC requirement against Arista documentation.
