Arista compatible QSFP-40G-LR4 Description
EdgeOptic's Arista QSFP-40G-LR4 compatible is an Arista-coded version of the EdgeOptic 40G-QSFP-10 multi-vendor 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver. It is a QSFP+ module for 40 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at distances up to 10 km, programmed with Arista-recognized EEPROM so it identifies correctly on Arista EOS switches with QSFP+ ports.
The module carries 40G Ethernet at 41.25 Gbps over four NRZ lanes on a CWDM4 grid at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm. It uses DFB lasers and a PIN photodiode, with per-lane launch power from −6 to +3 dBm and receiver sensitivity of −12.6 dBm per lane. The 6.6 dB link budget supports a 10 km span over G.652 single-mode fiber terminated with a duplex LC connector. Receiver overload is +3 dBm, and the module operates across a 0 to 70 °C case temperature range. Digital optical monitoring reports temperature, supply voltage, laser bias and optical power in real time.
Arista EOS switching is an Ethernet-only context, so this optic targets 40 Gigabit Ethernet links. It matches the original Arista QSFP-40G-LR4 optical specifications and conforms to IEEE 802.3ba Clause 87, the QSFP+ MSA and SFF-8436. Don't confuse it with the Arista QSFP-40G-LRL4, which is a shorter-reach 2 km variant on the same CWDM4 wavelength grid. Verify the part against the Arista transceiver guide for the target switch before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Arista QSFP-40G-LR4 the same as the QSFP-40G-LRL4?
No. The QSFP-40G-LR4 is the 10 km 40GBASE-LR4 module per IEEE 802.3ba. The QSFP-40G-LRL4 is Arista's shorter-reach variant rated for 2 km. Both use the same CWDM4 wavelength grid, so the part numbers are easy to mix up, but the reach class is different. Order the LR4 for 10 km spans and the LRL4 only where 2 km is sufficient. This compatible covers the 10 km LR4 part.
