Arista compatible QSFP-40G-SRBD Description
EdgeOptic's QSFP-40G-SRBD compatible is an Arista-coded version of the EdgeOptic BIDI-40G-QSFP-150 multi-vendor 40G BiDi QSFP+ transceiver. The module carries dual wavelengths at 850 and 900 nm over a single duplex LC connector, transmitting and receiving on both fibers to reach 150 meters on OM3, OM4 or OM5 multimode fiber, so it runs on ordinary duplex LC multimode cabling rather than the eight-fiber MPO trunk that 40GBASE-SR4 requires. The optical link budget is 2 dB, and the design pairs a VCSEL transmitter with a PIN photodiode receiver, consistent with the underlying BIDI-40G-QSFP-150 hardware.
The underlying hardware covers data rates up to 44.58 Gbps, including 40G Ethernet (41.25 Gbps) per IEEE 802.3ba, OTU3 (43.01 Gbps) and OTU3e2 (44.58 Gbps) OTN framing, and STM-256 (39.81 Gbps) SDH framing. On Arista's 7050X3 and 7260X3 switches, the application scope is 40 Gigabit Ethernet only, since these platforms terminate Ethernet frames and do not run OTN or SDH framing. Digital diagnostic monitoring is supported, per Arista's Transceiver Guide footnote for this part.
Arista documents QSFP-40G-SRBD across the 7050X3 and 7260X3 switch families, including the 7050CX3-32C/32S, 7050SX3-48C8/48C8C, 7050SX3-48YC8/48YC8C, 7050SX3-48YC12, 7050SX3-96YC8, 7050TX3-48C8, 7260CX3-64 and 7260CX3-64E models. Operating temperature is 0 to 70 degrees C, and the module meets IEEE 802.3ba, the QSFP+ MSA and SFF-8436, plus CE, IEC 60825-1 Class 1 laser safety and RoHS marking.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the QSFP-40G-SRBD compatible ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Arista QSFP-40G-SRBD the same part as the QSFP-40G-SRBD-R?
QSFP-40G-SRBD and QSFP-40G-SRBD-R are two separate Arista ordering codes. QSFP-40G-SRBD, with no suffix, is Arista's standard full bidirectional 40GBASE-BiDi QSFP+ variant, transmitting and receiving on both wavelengths, matching the EdgeOptic BIDI-40G-QSFP-150 hardware. QSFP-40G-SRBD-R is listed separately in Arista's Transceiver Guide as a receiver-only variant. Confirm which suffix appears on the bill of materials before ordering, since the two parts are not interchangeable.
Can the QSFP-40G-SRBD run in 4x10G breakout mode on Arista switches?
No. Arista's hardware compatibility documentation notes that 40G-SRBD optics cannot be used with 4x10-GbE breakout ports. Deploy this transceiver as a native 40 Gigabit Ethernet port on the supported 7050X3 and 7260X3 switch models.
