Arista compatible SFP-10G-LR Description

SFP-10G-LR is Arista’s part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver used across their data center and campus switching portfolio. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform, coded with Arista-recognized vendor data so EOS accepts the module and reports it correctly in “show inventory” and “show interfaces transceiver” output. The compatible functions as a direct substitute for the original Arista-branded optic.

The transceiver operates at 1310 nm using a DFB laser and PIN photodiode receiver, supporting 10 Gbps over up to 10 km of G.652 single-mode fiber through duplex LC/UPC connectors. Compliance covers IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 (DDM). The link budget accommodates the standard 6.3 dB maximum channel insertion loss. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, with power consumption staying within the SFP+ MSA specification at under 1 W.

Arista and Cisco both use the part name “SFP-10G-LR” for their 10GBASE-LR SFP+ modules, but the EEPROM vendor coding differs between the two platforms. An Arista-coded SFP-10G-LR will report as an unsupported transceiver on a Cisco platform, and a Cisco-coded module will trigger the same warning on Arista EOS. EdgeOptic produces separate compatible SKUs for each vendor. When ordering, specify Arista as the target vendor to receive the module with correct EEPROM coding. In mixed Arista/Cisco environments, maintain separate spares for each platform to avoid cross-platform compatibility issues during maintenance events.

This Arista-coded compatible targets the 7050X/X2/X3 series (data center leaf/spine), 7280R/R2/R3 (routing and peering), 7500R/R2/R3 (modular chassis), and 7020R series. These switches appear in data center fabrics, internet peering points, cloud provider edge networks, and large campus cores. The 10G LR optic provides connectivity for management interfaces, out-of-band networks, or 10G access ports in mixed-speed environments where single-mode fiber infrastructure is already in place. In Arista EVPN-VXLAN fabrics, the SFP-10G-LR can serve as underlay connectivity between leaf and spine tiers when single-mode fiber is the available medium between racks or rows.

EdgeOptic provides full DDM telemetry and a lifetime warranty on Arista-compatible modules. DDM values are accessible via EOS CLI (“show interfaces transceiver detail”) and SNMP polling. For data center deployment volumes or platform questions, contact our sales team

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this Arista SFP-10G-LR and the Cisco SFP-10G-LR?

Both are 10GBASE-LR SFP+ modules with the same optical specifications, but the EEPROM carries different vendor coding. Arista EOS and Cisco IOS/NX-OS each validate the vendor field. Installing the wrong vendor’s module triggers unsupported-transceiver warnings. EdgeOptic sells separate Arista-coded and Cisco-coded compatible SKUs.

Which Arista platforms accept this SFP-10G-LR compatible?

This compatible is coded for Arista and works in the 7050X/X2/X3 (data center leaf/spine), 7280R/R2/R3 (routing), 7500R/R2/R3 (modular chassis), and 7020R series. Any Arista EOS platform with an SFP+ port should accept it without CLI workarounds.

Does Arista EOS require a command to enable third-party optics?

EdgeOptic’s Arista-compatible SFP-10G-LR is coded with Arista vendor data, so EOS treats it as a recognized module. No “service unsupported-transceiver” or equivalent command is needed. The transceiver appears in “show interfaces transceiver” with full DDM data.
