Arista compatible SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Arista SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX rate-adaptive transceiver. This module operates at 1000BASE-LX (1 Gbps) in Arista SFP+ ports that accept SFP+ modules. It transmits at 1310nm over single-mode fiber with a duplex LC/UPC connector, reaching up to 10km. The module is Arista EEPROM coded and recognized without warnings in EOS.
In 1000BASE-LX mode, the transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB laser with an output power range of –9.5dBm to –3dBm per IEEE 802.3z. The receiver sensitivity is –19dBm at BER 1E-12, providing an optical power budget of 9.5dB against a maximum channel insertion loss of 5dB for a 10km G.652 link. The transmitter center wavelength is 1310nm nominal (1270–1355nm allowed range per IEEE 802.3z). The EdgeOptic replacement is dual-rate, also supporting 10.3125 Gbps (10GBASE-LR) when the switch port is configured for 10G.
Arista switches with only SFP+ slots need this module type to establish 1G links to legacy equipment, server NICs, or out-of-band management connections over single-mode fiber. The “RA” designation stands for rate-adaptive. This module is compatible with Arista 7050X/X2/X3/X4, 7060X/X2/X4/X5, and 7280R/R2/R3 series switches. Rate-adaptive operation requires a supported EOS version — check the Arista hardware compatibility matrix for your specific platform.
Arista does not hard-lock third-party optics. EOS may log an “unsupported transceiver” message for unrecognized modules, but the port operates normally. Compatible modules with Arista EEPROM coding are recognized without warnings and report DDM data through “show interfaces transceiver.” The switch port auto-detects the optic speed or can be set manually with the “speed forced 1000full” interface command.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports transmit and receive optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. The module is MSA compliant, classified as Class 1 laser safe per IEC 60825-1, CE and RoHS certified, with a commercial operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.
G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget, leaving ~2.5 dB margin once connector and splice losses are accounted for. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR before commissioning.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX and SFP-1G-LX?
Both operate at 1000BASE-LX (1 Gbps, 1310nm, 10km SMF). SFP-1G-LX uses the standard SFP form factor and fits native 1G SFP slots. SFP-10G-RA-1G-LX uses the SFP+ form factor and fits 10G SFP+ slots. Use the RA variant when your Arista switch has only SFP+ ports and you need a 1G link.
Do I need to configure anything on the Arista switch for 1G operation?
On most Arista EOS platforms, inserting an RA optic triggers automatic speed detection to 1G. If the link does not come up, set the port speed manually with “speed forced 1000full” in interface configuration mode. Check your EOS release notes for RA optic support on your specific switch model.
Can this module also run at 10G?
The EdgeOptic replacement module is dual-rate and supports both 1G (1000BASE-LX) and 10G (10GBASE-LR). If the switch port is configured for 10G, the module operates at 10.3125 Gbps. Note that 10G operation depends on your switch platform and EOS version supporting rate-switching on that port. The link speed can be changed later without swapping the optic.
