Aruba compatible J4858D Description
EdgeOptic's J4858D compatible is an Aruba-coded version of the EdgeOptic 1.25G-SFP-550D multi-vendor 1000BASE-SX transceiver. It matches the HPE Aruba Networking 1G SFP LC SX 500m OM2 MMF spec: an 850nm VCSEL transmitter, a PIN photodiode receiver, and a duplex LC interface over multimode fiber. The module runs dual-rate, covering 1000BASE-SX Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps and 1G Fibre Channel short-wave at 1.0625 Gbps, in line with IEEE 802.3z and FC-PI.
HPE names this part for OM2 fiber, which carries 500 MHz·km modal bandwidth. With a 7.5 dB optical budget, the module reaches up to 550m over OM2 (50/125) multimode fiber and 275m over OM1 (62.5/125) per the 1000BASE-SX specification. OM3 and OM4 fiber meet or exceed OM2 at 1 Gbps, so existing higher-grade plant works without a different module. It operates from a +3.3V supply across a 0 to 70°C commercial temperature range and supports DDM/DOM digital diagnostics for live transmit power, receive power, temperature, and bias-current telemetry.
The J4858D is the Aruba AOS-CX part, coded for current Aruba CX switch families rather than the older ProVision/ArubaOS-Switch line. EdgeOptic codes the module with Aruba-recognized EEPROM so it is accepted without an unsupported-transceiver workaround. Verify your specific switch model against the HPE Aruba transceiver compatibility guide before ordering. For ProVision-based ProCurve switches such as the 2530 or 2540, the J4858C is the matching part rather than the J4858D.
The module is CE and RoHS certified, rated Class 1 Laser, and built to the SFP INF-8074i MSA. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, it ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions
Does the J4858D work in older ArubaOS-Switch (ProVision) switches, or only AOS-CX?
The J4858D is coded for Aruba AOS-CX switches. If your gear runs the older ProVision/ArubaOS-Switch operating system, such as the ProCurve-lineage 2530, 2540, or 1820 families, the J4858C is the matching part instead. Both share the same 1000BASE-SX optics, so the choice comes down to switch platform coding. Verify your model against the HPE Aruba transceiver guide before ordering.
Can the J4858D run on OM3 or OM4 fiber instead of OM2?
Yes. HPE names the J4858D for OM2 fiber, but OM3 and OM4 meet or exceed OM2's modal bandwidth at 1 Gbps. The same 850nm 1000BASE-SX module runs over OM3 and OM4 plant with no different part required. No separate transceiver is needed when upgrading your fiber grade.
