Aruba compatible J9151A Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the HP ProCurve J9151A (X132 10G SFP+ LC LR) 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. This module is EEPROM-coded for legacy HP ProCurve platforms.
The transceiver operates at data rates from 1.25 to 10.3125 Gbps, supporting 10GBase-LR (IEEE 802.3ae) and Gigabit Ethernet applications. It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, with a minimum link budget of 6dB over standard G.652 single-mode fiber.
This module is tested on HP ProCurve SFP+ platforms including the 5400zl and 8200zl series with SFP+ line cards. The J9151A carries HP ProCurve-era EEPROM coding for these older chassis.
The J9151A is the original HP ProCurve encoding. HPE replaced it with the J9151E for current ArubaOS-Switch platforms (2540, 2930, 3810) and the J9151D for AOS-CX platforms (6200, 6300, 6400). If you have a newer Aruba switch, check which encoding your platform requires.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. It is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, CE/RoHS certified, and operates in commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
All EdgeOptic modules ship with a lifetime warranty and are tested before dispatch. For volume pricing or project support, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What HP ProCurve switches support the J9151A?
The J9151A is supported on HP ProCurve SFP+ platforms including the 5400zl and 8200zl series with SFP+ line cards such as the J9309A (4-port 10GbE SFP+ zl) and J9538A (8-port 10GbE SFP+ v2 zl).
Is the J9151A the same as X132 10G SFP+ LC LR?
Yes. "X132 10G SFP+ LC LR" is HP's product description for the J9151A. The J9151A is the ordering part number, and X132 is the product series name. Both refer to the same 10GBASE-LR transceiver.
Does the J9151A work in newer Aruba 2930F or CX 6300 switches?
No. The J9151A uses legacy HP ProCurve EEPROM coding. For the Aruba 2540, 2930F, 2930M, and 3810M use the J9151E. For Aruba CX 6200, 6300, and 6400 use the J9151D. All three are optically identical.
How do I check J9151A transceiver diagnostics on a ProCurve switch?
On HP ProCurve switches, use "show interfaces A1 transceiver detail" to view DDM readings for a specific port. This shows TX power, RX power, temperature, and bias current.
