Aruba compatible J9151D Description
J9151D is Aruba’s part number for the 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver qualified for AOS-CX switching platforms. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform and coded with the Aruba vendor data that AOS-CX firmware validates during transceiver initialization. The compatible registers with the correct vendor ID and is treated as a supported optic by AOS-CX, with no CLI workarounds required.
The module uses a 1310 nm DFB laser and PIN photodiode receiver to deliver 10 Gbps over distances up to 10 km on G.652 single-mode fiber. Connector type is duplex LC/UPC. Compliance covers IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 (DDM). Maximum channel insertion loss stays within the standard 6.3 dB link budget. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, and power consumption remains under 1 W per the SFP+ MSA.
Aruba’s transceiver catalog has evolved through multiple generations as HPE restructured its networking brands. The J9151D is the AOS-CX era part number, replacing the J9151E used on AOS-Switch (ProVision) platforms. Target switches for the J9151D include the CX 6300 (6300M, 6300F), CX 6400, CX 8325, CX 8400, and the newer CX 10000 series. These platforms form the backbone of Aruba’s campus and data center switching portfolio. Typical 10G LR uplink scenarios include connecting access-layer CX 6000 or CX 6100 switches to aggregation-layer CX 6400 chassis, or linking CX 8325 leaf switches to CX 8400 spine nodes in a data center EVPN-VXLAN fabric. The J9151D is also referenced in Aruba’s validated reference designs for campus networking with HPE GreenLake.
Don’t swap J9151D and J9151E between platforms. The J9151D carries AOS-CX-specific EEPROM coding, while the J9151E targets AOS-Switch platforms (2930F, 3810M, 5400R). Installing a J9151E in a CX switch, or a J9151D in an AOS-Switch platform, triggers an unsupported-transceiver event in the switch logs. In mixed HPE/Aruba environments that run both AOS-CX and AOS-Switch platforms, maintain separate spares inventory for each part number. EdgeOptic produces each as a separate compatible SKU to prevent cross-platform issues.
EdgeOptic provides full DDM reporting (Tx/Rx optical power, temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current) accessible via “show interface transceiver” in AOS-CX, plus a lifetime warranty on this compatible. For campus-scale deployments or volume pricing, contact our sales team
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between J9151D and J9151E?
J9151D is for Aruba AOS-CX platforms (CX 6300, 6400, 8325, 8400). J9151E is for AOS-Switch platforms (2930F, 3810M, 5400R). Both are 10GBASE-LR with identical optical specs, but the EEPROM coding differs. Using the wrong variant triggers unsupported-transceiver alerts on the switch.
Does the J9151D work in the Aruba CX 6300M?
Yes. The CX 6300M has SFP+ uplink ports that accept the J9151D. EdgeOptic’s compatible is coded with the correct Aruba vendor data for AOS-CX, so the switch accepts the module and populates DDM values in the “show interface transceiver” output.
Can I use a J9151D in an Aruba 2930F switch?
No. The 2930F runs AOS-Switch firmware and requires the J9151E part number. The J9151D’s AOS-CX coding is not recognized by AOS-Switch platforms. EdgeOptic sells the J9151E compatible separately for 2930F, 3810M, and 5400R deployments.
Is the J9151D compatible with the Aruba CX 8325 and CX 8400?
Yes. Both the CX 8325 (data center leaf/spine) and CX 8400 (campus core) are AOS-CX platforms that accept the J9151D. The module installs in any SFP+ port on these switches and is recognized as a supported transceiver by AOS-CX.
