Aruba compatible J9151D Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the HPE Aruba J9151D 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. This module is EEPROM-coded for recognition on AOS-CX platforms.
The transceiver operates at data rates from 1.25 to 10.3125 Gbps, supporting 10GBase-LR (IEEE 802.3ae) and Gigabit Ethernet applications. It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, with a minimum link budget of 6dB over standard G.652 single-mode fiber.
This module is tested on Aruba CX 6200, 6300, and 6400 series switches running AOS-CX. It is not for ArubaOS-Switch platforms (2540, 2930F, 2930M, 3810M, 5400R), which use the J9151E encoding instead.
The J9151D is the CX-generation encoding. The J9151E covers ArubaOS-Switch platforms (2540, 2930, 3810). The J9151A is the legacy HP ProCurve encoding (e.g., 5400zl). All three are optically identical, differing only in EEPROM coding.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. It is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, CE/RoHS certified, and operates in commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
All EdgeOptic modules ship with a lifetime warranty and are tested before dispatch. For volume pricing or project support, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Aruba CX switches support the J9151D?
The J9151D is tested on Aruba CX 6200, 6300, and 6400 series switches running AOS-CX. It is not supported on ArubaOS-Switch platforms (2540, 2930F, 2930M, 3810M, 5400R), which use the J9151E instead.
Will the J9151D work in an older Aruba 2930F or 3810M switch?
No. The J9151D is coded for AOS-CX platforms only. For the 2540, 2930F, 2930M, 3810M, and other ArubaOS-Switch platforms, use the J9151E. The optical specs are identical, the difference is the EEPROM vendor coding.
How do I check transceiver status on an Aruba CX switch?
On AOS-CX, use "show interface 1/1/1 transceiver" to view module type and DDM readings for a specific port. For detailed diagnostics, use "show interface 1/1/1 transceiver detail" to see TX power, RX power, temperature, and bias current.
Can I mix J9151D and J9151E modules on the same fiber link?
Yes. Both are 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceivers with the same optical specs. Each transceiver is recognized by the switch it is inserted into. The remote-end encoding is irrelevant, so a J9151D in a CX switch and a J9151E in an ArubaOS switch will link without issues.
