Aruba compatible J9151E Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the HPE Aruba J9151E 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. This module is validated on HPE Aruba switching platforms with SFP+ ports and is EEPROM-coded for recognition in ArubaOS environments.

The transceiver operates at data rates from 1.25 to 10.3125 Gbps, supporting 10GBase-LR (IEEE 802.3ae) and Gigabit Ethernet applications. It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, with a minimum link budget of 6dB over standard G.652 single-mode fiber.

This module is tested on current HPE Aruba platforms, including the 2540, 2930F, 2930M, 3810M, 5400R series, and Instant On 1930 switches. The transceiver EEPROM is programmed with Aruba-compatible vendor data, so the module is recognized without error messages on supported platforms.

HPE Aruba uses multiple SFP+ part numbers for the same 10GBASE-LR specification, differentiated by platform encoding. The J9151E works with the 2540, 2930, 3810, and Instant On series. The J9151A is the older HP ProCurve encoding for legacy platforms like the 5400zl. The J9151D targets newer Aruba CX platforms such as the 6200, 6300, and 6400 series. All three are optically identical. The only difference is the EEPROM vendor coding.

Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. It is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431 and SFF-8432, CE/RoHS certified, and operates in commercial temperature range (0 to 70C).
