Aruba compatible JL484A Description
HPE Aruba-coded version of the EdgeOptic 25G-SFP28-100 multi-vendor 25GBASE-SR SFP28 transceiver. The JL484A compatible carries EEPROM programmed for HPE Aruba CX switching platforms running ArubaOS-CX, matching the original JL484A optical and electrical specification for short-reach 25 Gigabit Ethernet over multimode fiber.
850 nm VCSEL transmitter, PIN photodiode receiver, TX power −5 to +2.4 dBm, RX sensitivity better than −10.3 dBm, 5.3 dB link budget. Reach is 100 m on OM4, 100 m on OM5, and 70 m on OM3 with an LC/UPC duplex connector. The module is IEEE 802.3by Clause 112 compliant with RS-FEC per Clause 91 (RS(528,514)) required on the host port for 25GBASE-SR operation.
The electrical interface follows SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 for the SFP28 cage. Digital diagnostics are SFF-8472 compliant, surfacing temperature, supply voltage, TX bias, TX power, and RX power through standard ArubaOS-CX transceiver inspection commands. Power dissipation is 0.3 W, matching the SFP28 MSA low-power envelope, and the module is hot-swappable across the 0 to 70 °C commercial operating range.
Works on Aruba CX 8325, Aruba CX 8360, and Aruba CX 6300 series platforms. Verify per-model and per-firmware qualification against the ArubaOS-CX Transceiver Guide for your release. The JL484A compatible is the HPE Aruba switching SFP28; the HPE ProLiant server-side counterpart for FlexFabric adapters is 845398-B21, a different EEPROM coding for a different host class.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. For ArubaOS-CX firmware qualification questions or bulk procurement across an Aruba CX 8325 / 8360 / 6300 fleet, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the JL484A and 845398-B21?
JL484A is the HPE Aruba switching SFP28, coded for ArubaOS-CX inventory recognition on Aruba CX 8325, 8360, and 6300 series chassis. 845398-B21 is the HPE ProLiant FlexFabric server-adapter SFP28, coded for server-side validation on HPE FlexFabric NICs. Both are 25GBASE-SR with the same optical specification (850 nm, 100 m OM4, RS-FEC required), but the EEPROM coding and target platform class are different, so the two part numbers are not interchangeable when the host enforces module validation.
Does ArubaOS-CX require the allow-unsupported-transceiver command for the JL484A compatible?
The JL484A compatible carries HPE Aruba-coded EEPROM, so ArubaOS-CX registers the module as a supported JL484A at port initialization. The allow-unsupported-transceiver command is intended for non-HPE optics that ArubaOS-CX does not recognize; an Aruba-coded module does not depend on it. Verify recognition against the ArubaOS-CX Transceiver Guide for your specific switch model and firmware release.
Does the JL484A require RS-FEC on the ArubaOS-CX host port?
Yes. 25GBASE-SR per IEEE 802.3by Clause 112 requires RS-FEC (Clause 91, RS(528,514)) on the host-side 25G port. FC-FEC (Firecode) is not sufficient to bring the link up. ArubaOS-CX provides per-port FEC configuration on 25G SFP28 ports; consult the ArubaOS-CX CLI documentation for the FEC pinning syntax applicable to your firmware release. FEC mode must match on both ends of the link.
