Aruba compatible JL563B Description

EdgeOptic's JL563B compatible is an Aruba-coded 10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver built as a direct replacement for the HPE Aruba JL563B. The 'B' suffix denotes a hardware and EEPROM revision of the original JL563A; both SKUs share the same optical specification, and EdgeOptic's compatible is coded so AOS-CX and supported ArubaOS-Switch platforms identify it correctly on either revision.

Per the HPE official product listing, JL563B is a 10GBASE-T SFP+ RJ45 module rated for 30 metres on Cat6a copper — not 80m, as some third-party resellers incorrectly list. Electrical interface follows the SFF-8431 SFP+ MSA with IEEE 802.3an for 10G. The module operates at 10G only; it does not auto-negotiate down to 1G, matching JL563A behaviour. Operating temperature is 0 to 65 °C with CE and RoHS certification.

Confirmed host platforms are the Aruba CX 6300 series (including JL658A 24-port SFP+), CX 8325 data centre switches, CX 8100 aggregation, and CX 6200 campus access. Aruba's thermal certification for CX 6300M supporting 10GBASE-T on all populated SFP+ ports applies equally to JL563B. As with JL563A, the module is not compatible with Aruba 2930M or 3810M ArubaOS-Switch chassis; ensure the host switch is on Aruba's qualified list before ordering.

DOM telemetry is reported through AOS-CX 'show interface transceiver detail' and Aruba Central or Aruba NetEdit inventory views, with case temperature and electrical status read from the standard DDM registers. JL563B carries the newer EEPROM revision, so any AOS-CX release that recognises the JL563 family will report the module with the correct B revision identifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between JL563B and JL563A? Are they interchangeable in the same chassis?

JL563B and JL563A share the same 10GBASE-T SFP+ specification: RJ45, 30m Cat6a, 10G only, no 1G fallback. HPE lists them as separate part numbers, with the 'B' suffix commonly understood as a newer production run and updated EEPROM revision of the original A part. Aruba's Transceiver Guide does not warn against mixing A and B revisions within the same chassis, so an existing JL563A population can generally be extended with JL563B without redesigning cable plant or switch policy; confirm the specific mix against the current Aruba guide for your switch model before large-scale deployment.

Why do some third-party sites list JL563B at 80m when HPE says 30m?

The 80m figure is a third-party listing error. HPE's official product listing for JL563B at buy.hpe.com confirms 30m on Cat6a, matching JL563A and every IEEE 802.3an 10GBASE-T SFP+ optic on the market. 10GBASE-T over copper SFP+ is not physically capable of 80m; that distance belongs to different-technology modules. Plan cable runs against the authoritative 30m spec.
