Aruba compatible JM534A Description

JM534A is Aruba's part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver designed for Aruba Instant AP and mobility controller platforms. EdgeOptic's compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform, matching the original optical and electrical specifications. Aruba positions the JM534A specifically for wireless infrastructure uplinks, separate from its switching optic portfolio.

JM534A serves a different role in the Aruba portfolio than J9151E or J9151D, which are intended for Aruba CX switching platforms. The JM534A is qualified specifically for uplink ports on Aruba 7200-series mobility controllers (7210, 7240XM), 7000-series controllers, and on AP uplink modules where 10G fiber connectivity is required between the controller and the core network layer.

The transceiver operates at 1310 nm using a DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver. It meets IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-LR requirements with a link budget supporting up to 10 km over G.652 single-mode fiber. Connector type is duplex LC/UPC. The SFP+ form factor conforms to SFF-8431/8432 mechanical and electrical standards, and DDM per SFF-8472 provides real-time diagnostics including optical Tx/Rx power, temperature, and laser bias current. These DDM readings integrate with Aruba AirWave and Aruba Central for centralized monitoring of the wireless infrastructure optical links.

In campus network designs, JM534A is typically deployed on 10G uplinks between mobility controllers and the core switch layer, or between controller clusters across buildings. The 10 km reach of LR optics allows inter-building connections without media converters, which simplifies the optical plant compared to short-reach SR modules that max out at 300 m on OM3 multimode fiber. For large campus deployments with multiple controller pairs, the LR reach enables centralized controller placement in a primary data room with fiber runs extending to building distribution frames across the campus.

EdgeOptic provides full DDM telemetry (Tx/Rx optical power, temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current) and a lifetime warranty. Aruba Central and AirWave both poll DDM data from JM534A modules, providing centralized visibility into the health of every wireless infrastructure fiber link. The module is MSA-compliant per SFF-8431/8432, CE/RoHS certified, and rated for commercial temperature operation (0 to 70 °C). For volume pricing or project support, contact our sales team

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the JM534A be used in Aruba CX switches like the 6300 or 6400?

Aruba CX switches use J9151D (AOS-CX era) or J9151E (ProVision era) as their qualified 10GBASE-LR optic. JM534A is qualified for mobility controllers and Instant AP platforms. While the optical specs are identical, Aruba's software may report a part-number mismatch on CX switches if JM534A is inserted.

Does the JM534A support Aruba 7200-series controller clustering over fiber?

Yes. The 7210 and 7240XM controllers accept SFP+ modules on their 10G uplink ports. JM534A provides the 10 km SMF reach needed for inter-building controller cluster links. The cluster heartbeat and session-state sync traffic run over standard 10GbE, which LR optics handle without issue.

What is the difference between JM534A and J9151E for Aruba networks?

JM534A targets mobility controllers and AP infrastructure. J9151E targets ProVision-era switches (5400R, 2930F/M). J9151D covers AOS-CX switches (6300, 6400, 8360). All three are 10GBASE-LR 1310 nm, 10 km modules, but they carry different Aruba part qualifications for different platform families.
