Aruba compatible JW092A Description

JW092A is Aruba’s part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver associated with the 7200 series mobility controller platform. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform, coded with the Aruba vendor data that the 7200 controller firmware expects during optic initialization. The compatible functions identically to the original Aruba-branded module in all 7200 series deployments.

The module operates at 1310 nm with a DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver, delivering 10 Gbps over up to 10 km of G.652 single-mode fiber. Connectors are duplex LC/UPC. The transceiver conforms to IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 (DDM). Channel insertion loss stays within the standard 6.3 dB budget. Commercial operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C, and power consumption stays under 1 W per the SFP+ MSA specification.

The Aruba 7210 and 7240 (including the 7240XM) mobility controllers use SFP+ ports for high-throughput uplinks to the campus core switch infrastructure. In large wireless deployments, the 7200 series aggregates traffic from hundreds of access points spread across multiple floors or buildings, and 10G uplinks prevent the controller from becoming a bandwidth bottleneck. The JW092A’s 10 km LR reach supports architectures where the controller sits in a central data center or main distribution frame, connected via single-mode fiber to distribution switches in other buildings across the campus.

Aruba maintains separate transceiver part numbers for different product families, and the distinctions matter for firmware validation. The JW092A is primarily listed for the 7200 mobility controllers. For Aruba CX switches (CX 6300, 6400, 8325, 8400), the preferred part number is J9151D. For AOS-Switch platforms (2930F, 3810M, 5400R), it’s J9151E. While the JW092A may physically function in some CX switch SFP+ ports, ordering the platform-specific part number avoids potential firmware warnings and simplifies spares inventory management. In environments running both 7200 controllers and CX switches, maintain separate optics inventory for each platform. The 7200 series is an end-of-sale product line; the Aruba 9004 and 9012 gateways are the successors, and their transceiver compatibility lists may reference different part numbers.

EdgeOptic provides full DDM telemetry (Tx/Rx optical power, temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current) and a lifetime warranty on this compatible. For mobility controller deployments or questions about which Aruba part number to order for a specific platform, contact our sales team

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use JW092A in an Aruba CX switch?

The JW092A may physically function in some CX switch SFP+ ports, but it is not the preferred part number for CX platforms. Aruba recommends J9151D for AOS-CX switches (CX 6300, 6400, 8325, 8400). Using the platform-specific part number ensures the switch firmware fully recognizes the transceiver.

Which Aruba 7200 controller models have SFP+ ports?

The Aruba 7210 has two SFP+ ports, and the Aruba 7240 and 7240XM have four SFP+ ports. These ports accept the JW092A 10GBASE-LR transceiver for 10G uplinks to the campus switching infrastructure.

What is the difference between JW092A, J9151D, and J9151E?

All three are Aruba 10GBASE-LR SFP+ modules with identical optical specs. JW092A is for 7200 mobility controllers, J9151D is for AOS-CX switches, and J9151E is for AOS-Switch (ProVision) platforms. Each carries different EEPROM coding. EdgeOptic sells all three as separate compatible SKUs.
