Avago compatible AFBR-89BDDZ Description
EdgeOptic's AFBR-89BDDZ compatible is an Avago/Broadcom-coded 100G SR-BiDi version of the EdgeOptic multi-vendor 100G BiDi transceiver, built to the same optical specifications as the OEM module and offered with multiple vendor codes across the catalog. The AFBR-89BDDZ originated as an Avago Technologies part number; Broadcom acquired Avago and still lists the module, so both brand names refer to the same QSFP28 part.
This is a QSFP28 100GBASE SR-BiDi module running 2x50G PAM4 over two strands of multimode fiber on a duplex LC connector. It transmits at 850 nm on one strand and 900 nm on the other, with a wideband receiver covering 832 to 918 nm. Because the receiver is wideband and the duplex LC pair crosses transmit and receive between the two strands, the same AFBR-89BDDZ module is used at both ends of the link. There is no separate far-end variant to order. The transmitter uses a VCSEL and the receiver uses a PIN photodiode.
With an average link budget of 1.9 dB, the module reaches 70 m over OM3, 100 m over OM4, and 150 m over OM5 multimode fiber. Quoted distances assume that budget against typical multimode attenuation and are provided as a planning guide. Host RS-FEC is required for 100GBASE SR-BiDi operation. The module supports DDM/DOM digital diagnostics and operates across the 0 to 70 °C commercial temperature range. The CAUI-4 host electrical interface follows IEEE 802.3bm; the SR-BiDi optical link itself is a multi-source agreement specification, not an IEEE-standardized optical PMD.
The AFBR-89BDDZ is a merchant-optics reference module rather than a switch-vendor-coded part, so compatibility rests on MSA and SFF-8636 compliance. It drops into QSFP28 ports that support 100G SR-BiDi across major switching platforms. Confirm the port is configured for 100G SR-BiDi and verify support against the host's transceiver compatibility table before deployment, and make sure both ends of the link run the same module.
