9 Data Channels Single Fiber Passive CWDM Mux/Demux: SCMD-9A

9-Channel Single Fiber CWDM Mux/Demux (Side A)
The SCMD-9A is EdgeOptic's Side A single fiber CWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer, built for engineers who need to combine and separate nine independently wavelength tuned channels on one strand of fiber. Housed in an LGX cassette with LC/UPC connectors, it pairs with the SCMD-9B to complete a full single fiber CWDM channel plan. It suits deployments where fiber count is limited and dark fiber pairs are scarce, letting a single strand carry traffic that would otherwise need two.

9 Data Channels Single Fiber Passive CWDM Mux/Demux Description
The EdgeOptic SCMD-9A is the Side A half of a 9-channel single fiber passive CWDM multiplexer/demultiplexer, housed in an LGX cassette with LC/UPC connectors. It carries nine Side A channels of the system's 18 optical channels on one fiber, completed by its SCMD-9B counterpart at the far end.
The unit uses CCWDM (Compact CWDM, free space) filter technology on a 20 nm channel grid with a passband of plus or minus 6.5 nm. Insertion loss is 1.9 dB across the passband, with a 1% monitor port at 23 dB. Isolation is 30 dB adjacent and 40 dB non adjacent, with 0.3 dB passband ripple and 0.2 dB polarization dependent loss (PDL). Maximum power handling is 500 mW; operating range is 0 to 70 degrees C; MTBF is 1,000,000 hours. Compliance covers CE, ISO, RoHS and ITU-T G.694.2.
The SCMD-9A carries the Side A wavelength of each of the nine channel pairs: 1271, 1311, 1351, 1391, 1431, 1471, 1511, 1551 and 1591 nm. Each Side A channel requires its Side B counterpart at the far end; pair the SCMD-9A with the SCMD-9B to complete all nine channels on one fiber.
The SCMD-9A mounts in standard LGX compatible chassis and fiber trays alongside other passive CWDM modules. Each channel pairs with a CWDM tuned transceiver matched to its wavelength; verify wavelength against its datasheet. Usable link distance depends on the transceivers' optical budget and fiber plant, not on this passive filter.
SCMD-9A ships from stock and carries EDGE's standard 5-year product warranty. For project quantities, custom channel plans, or help matching CWDM transceivers to this Side A channel set, contact our sales team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the SCMD-9A and the SCMD-9B, and do I need both?
The SCMD-9A and SCMD-9B are the two halves of the same 9-channel single fiber CWDM channel plan. The SCMD-9A carries the Side A wavelengths (1271, 1311, 1351, 1391, 1431, 1471, 1511, 1551 and 1591 nm); the SCMD-9B carries the Side B wavelength of each pair. Both units are required, one at each end of the link, to complete all nine bidirectional channels on a single fiber.
Which transceivers work with the SCMD-9A?
The SCMD-9A works with CWDM tuned or colored transceivers whose fixed wavelength matches one of the Side A channels above. Match each transceiver's rated wavelength to the corresponding channel before ordering, and verify the exact wavelength and form factor against the transceiver's own datasheet.
Which CWDM wavelengths does the SCMD-9A carry?
The SCMD-9A carries the Side A wavelength of each of the nine channel pairs: 1271, 1311, 1351, 1391, 1431, 1471, 1511, 1551 and 1591 nm, spaced at 20 nm intervals with a passband of plus or minus 6.5 nm around each center wavelength.
How do I use the SCMD-9A's 1% monitor port to check optical power?
The 1% monitor port taps a small fraction of the optical signal at 23 dB insertion loss, so optical power on each channel can be checked while the link stays in service. It does not carry traffic and is not meant for connecting active equipment beyond a power meter or monitoring receiver.
