Brocade compatible 10G-SFPP-LR Description

The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Brocade 10G-SFPP-LR 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10 km over a duplex LC connector. 10G-SFPP-LR is the original Brocade-era SKU; the -S suffix variant is the current ordering SKU for Ruckus ICX platforms.

The transceiver uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae. The module has a 6 dB guaranteed optical link budget over G.652 single-mode fiber. Dual-rate operation at 1G Ethernet (1.25 Gbps, 1000BASE-LX) is supported on host ports that enable rate negotiation. Operating temperature range is 0 to 70°C commercial. Power consumption is under 1 W.

10G-SFPP-LR was introduced during the Brocade networking era and remains installed on legacy platforms including ICX 6430, 6450, and 6610 access switches, FCX series with 10G uplink SFP+ ports, VDX 6740 data center switches, BigIron RX chassis with 10GbE SFP+ line cards, and NetIron MLXe and CES/CER carrier routers. The 10G-SFPP-LR part number is still recognized by these platforms running original Brocade firmware.

For maintenance or spares on existing Brocade ICX, FCX, and NetIron deployments, the 10G-SFPP-LR is the coded part number that matches the original EEPROM data. For new deployments on current Ruckus ICX 7000 series switches, 10G-SFPP-LR-S is the preferred ordering SKU. Both SKUs share the same 10GBASE-LR optical specification, and current ICX platforms accept both variants.

G.652 single-mode fiber has a maximum attenuation of 0.4 dB/km at 1310nm per ITU-T G.652.D. Over a 10 km span, fiber loss consumes up to 4 dB of the 6 dB channel budget. Connector insertion loss typically runs 0.1 to 0.3 dB per mated LC UPC pair (0.5 dB maximum per IEC 61300-3-34), and fusion splice loss adds about 0.1 dB per splice, leaving approximately 1 to 1.4 dB of margin on a typical installed link. Inspect LC endfaces per IEC 61300-3-35 before mating.

DDM per SFF-8472 reports TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. The module is MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical) and IEEE 802.3ae (optical), with Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1. CE and RoHS certified for commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 10G-SFPP-LR still supported on legacy Brocade platforms?

Yes. The 10G-SFPP-LR part number is the original Brocade-era SKU and is recognized by legacy ICX 6430, 6450, and 6610, FCX, VDX 6740, BigIron RX, and NetIron MLXe, CES, and CER platforms running original Brocade firmware. For new deployments on current Ruckus ICX 7000 series switches, use the functionally equivalent 10G-SFPP-LR-S. Both variants are rated 0 to 70°C commercial.

Do I need to replace 10G-SFPP-LR with 10G-SFPP-LR-S when upgrading to current Ruckus ICX switches?

No. Current Ruckus ICX 7150, 7250, 7450, 7550, 7650, 7750, and 7850 switches accept both the legacy 10G-SFPP-LR and the current 10G-SFPP-LR-S. The EEPROM coding on both matches Brocade/Ruckus transceiver compatibility lists. Use whichever SKU is available in inventory; the optical and electrical specifications are identical.

What is the Brocade to Ruckus to CommScope corporate history?

When Broadcom acquired Brocade Communications in November 2017, the Ethernet networking business (ICX, FCX, VDX, NetIron) was divested to Ruckus Networks, then an Arris subsidiary. CommScope acquired Arris in April 2019, bringing Ruckus and the former Brocade networking portfolio under CommScope. Current ICX switches ship under the Ruckus or CommScope name while maintaining backward compatibility with Brocade-era transceiver part numbers.
