Brocade compatible 10G-SFPP-LR-S Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the Brocade 10G-SFPP-LR-S 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. The module runs 10GBASE-LR at 1310nm over single-mode fiber, reaching 10km through a duplex LC/UPC connector. It is Brocade/Ruckus EEPROM coded and recognized natively on ICX platforms.
Transmitter uses a 1310nm DFB laser; receiver is a PIN photodiode. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae. Dual-rate 1G operation (1.25 Gbps, 1000BASE-LX) is supported on ports that allow rate negotiation.
Compatible with Ruckus ICX 7150, 7250, 7450, 7550, 7650, 7750, and 7850 series switches. Legacy Brocade FCX and BigIron RX platforms also accept this coded module. ICX switches do not hard-block third-party MSA-compliant optics, though uncoded modules may trigger a compatibility note in the CLI. Run “show media” or “show optic” to check transceiver status.
10G-SFPP-LR and 10G-SFPP-LR-S share the same 10GBASE-LR optical specification and commercial temperature rating (0–70°C). The -S designation is the Ruckus-era re-issue of the original Brocade 10G-SFPP-LR and is the current ordering SKU for ICX platforms. Both work interchangeably for standard indoor deployments.
DDM per SFF-8472 reports TX/RX optical power, laser bias current, temperature, and supply voltage. MSA compliant per SFF-8431 (electrical) and IEEE 802.3ae (optical), with Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1. CE and RoHS certified for commercial temperature range 0°C to 70°C.
Operates over G.652 single-mode fiber (OS1/OS2 compliant). Minimum recommended link length is 2m; use an inline attenuator for shorter patches.
G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.
10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.
LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 10G-SFPP-LR and 10G-SFPP-LR-S?
Same 10GBASE-LR optical spec and commercial temperature rating (0–70°C). The 10G-SFPP-LR is the original Brocade-era SKU; the -S is the Ruckus re-issue and current ordering part number for ICX platforms. Both work interchangeably.
Do third-party SFP+ optics work in Ruckus ICX switches?
Ruckus ICX switches accept MSA-compliant SFP+ modules. A compatibility note may appear in the CLI for uncoded modules, but the port operates normally. Compatible modules with Brocade/Ruckus EEPROM coding avoid this note.
Which Ruckus ICX platforms support the 10G-SFPP-LR-S?
All current Ruckus ICX series: 7150, 7250, 7450, 7550, 7650, 7750, and 7850. Insert the module into any SFP+ port and it operates without additional configuration.
