The EDGE 400G-QSFP-DD-2.1 is a compatible replacement for the Ciena 160-9600-900, coded with Ciena-recognized EEPROM data. The module is accepted on Ciena platforms without additional configuration. Same duplex LC connector, same 2km single-mode reach.

The module transmits on four CWDM wavelengths (1271, 1291, 1311, 1331nm) using EML transmitters and PIN photodiode receivers. PAM4 modulation at 53.125 GBaud per lane for a 400 Gb/s aggregate data rate. An internal DSP handles gearbox adaptation between the electrical host interface and the four optical lanes. Maximum channel insertion loss of 4dB per the 400G Lambda MSA FR4 specification, supporting links up to 2km over OS2 single-mode fiber.

160-9600-900 is deployed on Ciena platforms with QSFP-DD ports, including the Waveserver 5 for data center interconnect. The Ciena EEPROM coding allows the module to be recognized without unsupported-transceiver warnings.
