Ciena compatible XCVR-Q10V31 Description

EdgeOptic's XCVR-Q10V31 compatible is a Ciena-coded 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 client optic, built on our 100G-QSFP28-10 hardware platform. XCVR-Q10V31 is the Ciena ordering code for the standard 10 km LR4 client optic on the OM6500, 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and Waveserver product lines. Each unit ships with Ciena-recognised EEPROM values pre-programmed, so the module initialises and identifies cleanly on these platforms without additional provisioning commands. It is a direct stocking item for spare inventory and for new 100G client port deployments on existing Ciena infrastructure.

Ciena uses several ordering codes for the same family of 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 client optic across its platform portfolio. XCVR-Q10V31 is the OM6500 / 6500 / Waveserver ordering reference. The generic Ciena ordering code QSFP28-LR4 covers any platform that calls for the unqualified Ciena 100G LR4 part. The 160-9401-900 and 160-9402-900 codes are platform-specific variants for other Ciena equipment lines. EdgeOptic indexes each ordering code as a separate SKU; this page is the canonical entry for the XCVR-Q10V31 form.

Optically the module conforms to IEEE 802.3ba Clause 88. Four LAN WDM channels at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58 and 1309.14 nm each carry 25.78125 Gbps NRZ, multiplexed onto one duplex LC single-mode fiber pair for an aggregate line rate of 103.125 Gbps. The minimum guaranteed optical budget is 6.3 dB, supporting 10 km on OS2 (G.652) single-mode fiber at typical 0.35 dB/km plant attenuation. TX power is -4.3 to +4.5 dBm, RX sensitivity is -10.6 dBm, and module power draw is roughly 3.5 W. The optic is transparent to host-side RS-FEC and BASE-R FEC as enabled by the connected Ciena platform; there is no internal FEC engine.

QSFP28 MSA (SFF-8665) and SFF-8636 management compliance covers the electrical and software interfaces. DDM/DOM telemetry exposes per-lane TX and RX optical power, module temperature, supply voltage and laser bias current. The duplex LC connector accepts standard SMF patch cords, and the commercial 0 to 70 °C operating temperature range covers typical central-office and metro POP environments. The module is hot-pluggable; modules can be swapped on a live Ciena chassis without taking the slot offline. Note that XCVR-Q10V31 is the standard 10 km LR4 form; XCVR-Q10V31-20 (20 km) and XCVR-Q10V31-CWDM4-2 (CWDM4 2 km) are separate Ciena ordering codes for different optical specifications and are not covered by this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the XCVR-Q10V31 compatible module work on the Ciena OM6500 without configuration changes?

Yes. EdgeOptic programs each unit with Ciena-recognised EEPROM values for the OM6500, 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and Waveserver product lines, so the module initialises and identifies on these chassis without additional provisioning. No allow-third-party or override commands are required for the platforms XCVR-Q10V31 is the canonical ordering code for.

Is the XCVR-Q10V31 the same module as the Ciena 160-9401-900?

No. XCVR-Q10V31 and 160-9401-900 are separate Ciena ordering codes for platform-specific variants of the 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 client optic. XCVR-Q10V31 is the form used on the OM6500, 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and Waveserver lines. 160-9401-900 is a platform-specific variant for other Ciena equipment. EdgeOptic indexes each as a separate SKU and ships the EEPROM coded for the specific ordering reference, so order against the exact code that appears on your BOM rather than substituting one for the other.

What is the difference between XCVR-Q10V31, QSFP28-LR4 and 160-9401-900 on the Ciena ordering catalogue?

All three are Ciena ordering codes for 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 client optics within the same optical specification, but each maps to specific platforms in the Ciena catalogue. XCVR-Q10V31 is the OM6500, 6500 and Waveserver code. QSFP28-LR4 is the generic Ciena ordering reference for platforms that call for the unqualified Ciena 100G LR4 part. 160-9401-900 (and the related 160-9402-900) are platform-specific variants for other Ciena equipment lines. The optical specification is shared, but the ordering code on your BOM determines which EdgeOptic SKU to procure.

Is XCVR-Q10V31 the same as XCVR-Q10V31-20 or XCVR-Q10V31-CWDM4-2?

No. XCVR-Q10V31 covered by this page is the standard 10 km 100GBASE-LR4 form. XCVR-Q10V31-20 is the 20 km LR4 reach extension (different optical budget and TX/RX specifications). XCVR-Q10V31-CWDM4-2 is the 2 km CWDM4 form (entirely different wavelength plan). Each is a separate Ciena ordering code and a separate EdgeOptic SKU; check the suffix on the BOM before ordering.
