Cisco compatible DS-SFP-FCGE-SW Description
EdgeOptic's DS-SFP-FCGE-SW compatible is a Cisco-coded version of the EdgeOptic 1.25G-SFP-550D multi-vendor 1000BASE-SX transceiver. It runs Gigabit Ethernet at 1.25 Gbps (IEEE 802.3z) and 1G Fibre Channel shortwave at 1.0625 Gbps over duplex multimode fiber, with an 850 nm VCSEL transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver.
A 7.5 dB optical budget reaches 550 m over OM2 multimode fiber (50/125, 500 MHz·km) and 275 m over OM1 (62.5/125). The module uses a duplex LC/UPC interface and reports DDM/DOM diagnostics for optical power, bias current, and temperature. It operates from 0 to 70°C on a +3.3V supply, built to the INF-8074i SFP MSA, CE/RoHS certified, Class 1 laser safety.
DS-SFP-FCGE-SW is Cisco's ordering code for an 850 nm shortwave SFP used in MDS 9000 Series storage networking. EdgeOptic codes the EEPROM with Cisco-recognized data so the module is accepted on Cisco platforms. It works in Cisco MDS 9000 Series ports configured for Gigabit Ethernet or 1G Fibre Channel; verify the transceiver table for your platform.
Cisco documents the OEM DS-SFP-FCGE-SW as an autosensing 1/2-Gbps Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet shortwave SFP. The EdgeOptic compatible covers the Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-SX, 1.25 Gbps) and 1G Fibre Channel (1.0625 Gbps) modes. It does not provide the OEM part's 2G Fibre Channel (2.125 GBd) mode. A port running 2G Fibre Channel needs a different module. Check the port's configured speed and the Cisco MDS 9000 compatibility matrix before ordering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the EdgeOptic DS-SFP-FCGE-SW compatible run in a 2-Gbps Fibre Channel port on an MDS 9000?
No. Cisco documents DS-SFP-FCGE-SW as an autosensing 1/2-Gbps Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet shortwave SFP. The EdgeOptic compatible covers the Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-SX, 1.25 Gbps) and 1G Fibre Channel (1.0625 Gbps) modes, and it does not provide the 2G Fibre Channel (2.125 GBd) mode. A port configured or auto-negotiating to 2-Gbps Fibre Channel needs a different module. Check the port's configured speed and the Cisco MDS 9000 compatibility matrix before ordering, or contact our sales team to match the right part to the port speed.
Does the 550 m reach apply to Fibre Channel links as well as Gigabit Ethernet?
No. The 550 m figure on this page is the 1000BASE-SX Gigabit Ethernet reach on OM2 (50/125, 500 MHz·km), with 275 m on OM1 (62.5/125). Fibre Channel carries its own distance tables on the same 850 nm multimode link: Cisco documents the OEM part's 1G Fibre Channel reach as 500 m on 50 µm OM2 and 300 m on 62.5 µm fiber. Planning a Fibre Channel run against the 550 m Ethernet figure overstates the supported distance. Verify the Fibre Channel distance against Cisco's MDS transceiver tables for the fiber grade actually installed.
