Cisco compatible GLC-BX80-U-I Description
EdgeOptic's GLC-BX80-U-I compatible is a Cisco-coded version of the EdgeOptic BIDI-1.25G-SFP-80-ADI multi-vendor Gigabit Ethernet BiDi SFP transceiver. The module ships with a single LC/UPC connector over one strand of single-mode fiber, transmitting at 1490 nm and receiving at 1550 nm across an 80 km link with a 22 dB average link budget.
A DFB laser transmitter and PIN photodiode receiver cover the 1.0625 to 1.25 Gbps data rate range, supporting Gigabit Ethernet and 1G Fiber Channel applications. Minimum transmit power is -2 dBm, maximum transmit power is 3 dBm, and receiver sensitivity is -24 dBm with a -3 dBm overload point. Digital diagnostic monitoring is supported for real time visibility into transmit power, receive power, temperature and bias current. The module runs from a single 3.3V supply and is rated for the industrial temperature range of -45C to +85C, with CE, RoHS, FDA and IEC60825-1 laser safety, INF-8074i and SFP MSA compliance.
Cisco documents this Gigabit Ethernet SFP class as a matched pair: a GLC-BX80-D-I device is always connected to a GLC-BX80-U-I device over a single strand of standard single-mode fiber across an operating transmission range up to 80 km. This GLC-BX80-U-I is the upstream half of that pair. EdgeOptic's compatible is coded to the Cisco GLC-BX80-U-I ordering reference. For the full spec table and additional vendor coding options built on this hardware, see the EdgeOptic BIDI-1.25G-SFP-80-ADI product page.
Backed by EdgeOptic's compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, this part is made to order with a 2 week lead time and ships with EdgeOptic's lifetime warranty. Cisco's transceiver support policy varies by platform and software release; verify against Cisco's own compatibility matrix for the target platform before deployment. Frequently Asked Questions
Can two GLC-BX80-U-I modules form a working link without a GLC-BX80-D-I on the other end?
No. Cisco documents this Gigabit Ethernet SFP class as a matched pair: a GLC-BX80-D-I device is always connected to a GLC-BX80-U-I device over a single strand of standard single-mode fiber across an operating transmission range up to 80 km. The GLC-BX80-U-I is the upstream half of that pair and transmits at 1490 nm, so it needs a GLC-BX80-D-I with the complementary wavelength assignment on the far end of the link. Two U-I units facing each other will not establish a link.
Is GLC-BX80-U-I= a different part from GLC-BX80-U-I?
No. Cisco part numbers ending in an equals sign denote the standalone spare orderable version of the same part, not a functional variant. EdgeOptic's compatible is coded to match the GLC-BX80-U-I module itself, so it is the correct choice whether a purchase order references GLC-BX80-U-I or GLC-BX80-U-I=.
