Cisco compatible MA-SFP-10GB-LR Description

MA-SFP-10GB-LR is Cisco Meraki’s part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver used in cloud-managed MS switches and MX security appliances. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform and coded with Meraki-specific EEPROM, so the Meraki dashboard recognizes the module and reports its status correctly. The compatible is a direct functional substitute for the original Meraki-branded optic.

The transceiver uses a 1310 nm DFB laser and PIN photodiode receiver to deliver 10 Gbps over up to 10 km of G.652 single-mode fiber. Connectors are duplex LC/UPC. The module conforms to IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432, and SFF-8472 (DDM). Maximum channel insertion loss remains within the 6.3 dB link budget. Operating temperature range covers 0°C to 70°C, with power consumption under 1 W per the SFP+ MSA specification.

Meraki uses its own part numbering system, entirely separate from Cisco’s IOS/NX-OS transceiver catalog. The MA-SFP-10GB-LR is not interchangeable with Cisco’s SFP-10G-LR, even though both are 10GBASE-LR optics with the same underlying optical specifications. The EEPROM vendor fields differ, and Meraki firmware validates optics against its own approved list. Installing a standard Cisco SFP-10G-LR in a Meraki switch may result in the dashboard reporting an unsupported transceiver. EdgeOptic produces each as a separate compatible SKU with the correct coding for the respective platform.

Target hardware for the MA-SFP-10GB-LR includes Meraki MS350, MS355, MS390, MS410, and MS425 switches with SFP+ uplink ports, as well as MX250, MX450, and MX600 security appliances. These platforms appear in distributed enterprise deployments where Meraki’s cloud management model handles branch offices, retail locations, and campus networks. The 10 km LR reach covers inter-building fiber runs that exceed the 300 m limit of SR optics, making it suitable for campus backbone links between Meraki MS aggregation switches and core infrastructure. Meraki’s MS250 series has SFP+ uplinks on some models but is limited to 1G SFP on others; confirm the specific MS model’s port specifications before ordering.

EdgeOptic provides full DDM telemetry and a lifetime warranty on Meraki-compatible modules. The DDM data (Tx/Rx optical power, temperature, laser bias current, supply voltage) is visible through the Meraki dashboard under the switch port detail view, the same interface that displays DDM for Meraki-branded optics. Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work in a Cisco Catalyst switch?

No. The MA-SFP-10GB-LR carries Meraki-specific EEPROM coding that Cisco IOS and NX-OS platforms don’t recognize as a supported optic. For Catalyst or Nexus switches, order EdgeOptic’s SFP-10G-LR compatible, which is coded for Cisco’s enterprise switching platforms.

Does the Meraki dashboard display DDM data for compatible optics?

Yes. EdgeOptic’s MA-SFP-10GB-LR compatible reports DDM telemetry (Tx power, Rx power, temperature, voltage, bias current) through the standard SFF-8472 interface. The Meraki dashboard reads these values and displays them in the port detail view, the same as it would for a Meraki-branded module.
