Cisco compatible SFP-10G-ZR Description

EdgeOptic's SFP-10G-ZR compatible is a Cisco-coded version of the EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-80 multi-vendor 10GBASE-ZR transceiver. It matches the original Cisco part's 80 km single-mode optical specification and ships with Cisco-recognized EEPROM, so the host accepts it without the service unsupported-transceiver command. The 10GBASE-ZR 80 km class follows the SFP+ MSA and SFF-8431, deriving its reach from the OC-192 / STM-64 SONET specification rather than IEEE 802.3ae, which Cisco's own datasheet notes is not part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard.

The module transmits at a nominal 1550 nm over G.652 duplex single-mode fiber on a Double LC/UPC interface, using an EML laser and an APD photodiode. It carries a 23 dB link budget with transmit power from 0 dBm to +5 dBm and receiver sensitivity better than −24 dBm, reaching up to 80 km on standard SMF within a 1600 ps/nm chromatic dispersion tolerance. The chipset runs from 1.25 to 11.32 Gbps and covers 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, 1G through 10G Fibre Channel, and STM-64 SONET/SDH at 9.95 Gbps. DDM/DOM reports temperature, voltage, laser bias, and optical power for in-service monitoring.

SFP-10G-ZR and SFP-10G-ZR-S are optically identical. The -S suffix is the Cisco spare ordering PID, not a different optic, so this compatible covers equipment specified for either part number. Confirm the module against the Cisco platform's 10GBASE-ZR transceiver compatibility list before deployment. Because the ZR transmitter launches at 0 dBm minimum into a receiver rated to −24 dBm, an inline optical attenuator is needed on spans shorter than 40 km to avoid overloading and damaging the receiver.

This compatible covers the 10GBASE-ZR Ethernet application along with STM-64 SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel. OTU2 and OTU2e OTN transport framing are not within this compatible's coverage. For OTN-framed requirements, contact our sales team.

Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. The module ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Cisco SFP-10G-ZR the same as the SFP-10G-ZR-S?

Optically they are identical. The -S suffix is the Cisco spare ordering PID, not a different optic, so a module specified for either part number has the same 1550 nm 80 km 10GBASE-ZR build. This compatible covers equipment that calls for SFP-10G-ZR or SFP-10G-ZR-S.

Does this compatible support OTU2 / OTU2e OTN framing like the Cisco multirate SFP-10G-ZR?

This compatible covers the 10GBASE-ZR Ethernet application along with STM-64 SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel. OTU2 and OTU2e OTN transport framing are not within its coverage. If your deployment needs OTN-framed transport, contact our sales team.
