Cisco compatible SFP-10G-ZR-S Description
EdgeOptic's SFP-10G-ZR-S compatible is a Cisco-coded version of the EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-80 multi-vendor 10GBASE-ZR transceiver. It is programmed with Cisco-recognized EEPROM, so the module is identified on IOS XE and NX-OS without the service unsupported-transceiver command. The -S suffix is Cisco's S-Class ordering designation, optically the same 1550nm 80km ZR build as the base SFP-10G-ZR.
The S-Class is scoped to the 10GBASE-ZR Ethernet application. It carries 10 Gigabit Ethernet over 80km of G.652 single-mode fiber using a duplex LC connector. The optic uses an EML transmitter and an APD receiver to reach the full ZR distance. Transmit power runs from 0 to +5 dBm and receiver sensitivity is better than −24 dBm, giving a 23 dB link budget. Chromatic dispersion tolerance is 1600 ps/nm. Digital diagnostics monitoring reports temperature, supply voltage, laser bias, transmit power, and received power in real time.
For spans shorter than about 40km, add an inline optical attenuator to keep received power below the receiver overload threshold. The module operates over the standard 0 to 70 degree C commercial temperature range on a 3.3V supply. It meets SFF-8431, the SFP+ MSA, and Class 1 laser safety per IEC 60825-1, alongside CE and RoHS. 10GBASE-ZR is a de-facto MSA reach class derived from OC-192 and STM-64 transport, not an IEEE 802.3ae mode.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. To confirm the module against a specific switch or line card, verify the host against the Cisco optics compatibility matrix or contact our sales team. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SFP-10G-ZR-S the same optic as the SFP-10G-ZR, and what does the S designation mean?
Both are 1550nm 80km 10GBASE-ZR SFP+ optics built on the same hardware. The S in SFP-10G-ZR-S is Cisco's S-Class ordering designation, not a spare-part suffix. S-Class is scoped to 10 Gigabit Ethernet only, so it does not carry OTU2, FCoE, or WAN-PHY. If your design needs only Ethernet over the 80km ZR span, the EdgeOptic compatible matches the S-Class build.
Cisco has announced end of sale for the SFP-10G-ZR-S. What replacement is available?
Cisco set a last order date for the SFP-10G-ZR-S, after which the OEM part is no longer orderable through Cisco. The EdgeOptic Cisco-compatible 10GBASE-ZR SFP+ remains available from EU stock and is coded with Cisco-recognized EEPROM, so it drops into the same ports without the service unsupported-transceiver command.
