Cisco compatible SFP-25G-SR-S Description

Cisco-coded version of the EdgeOptic 25G-SFP28-100 multi-vendor 25GBASE-SR SFP28 transceiver. The SFP-25G-SR-S compatible matches the original Cisco SFP-25G-SR-S optical and electrical specification for short-reach 25 Gigabit Ethernet over multimode fiber. The -S suffix is Cisco's standalone ordering convention; SFP-25G-SR-S= is the spare PID for the same module ordered separately.

850 nm VCSEL transmitter, PIN photodiode receiver, TX power −5 to +2.4 dBm, RX sensitivity better than −10.3 dBm, 5.3 dB link budget. Reach is 100 m on OM4, 100 m on OM5, and 70 m on OM3 with an LC/UPC duplex connector. Data rate is 25.78 Gbps per IEEE 802.3by Clause 112, and the module requires RS-FEC via Clause 91 (RS(528,514)) on the host port. FC-FEC (Firecode) is not sufficient for SFP-25G-SR-S operation; the host must present RS-FEC at link bring-up.

The electrical interface follows SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 for the SFP28 cage. Digital diagnostics are SFF-8472 compliant, surfacing temperature, supply voltage, TX bias, TX power, and RX power through standard NX-OS and IOS XE transceiver inspection commands. Power dissipation is 0.3 W and the module operates across 0 to 70 °C.

EEPROM is programmed with Cisco-recognized vendor identification, which means NX-OS and IOS XE accept the module as a supported transceiver at link-up without requiring the service unsupported-transceiver command. Works on Cisco Nexus 9000 series, Cisco UCS fabric interconnects, and Catalyst 9500 series platforms. Verify per-chassis and per-release qualification against Cisco's Transceiver Module Compatibility Matrix at tmgmatrix.cisco.com.

The SFP-25G-SR-S is a 25G-only module; Cisco's CSR-S dual-rate 25G SFP28 sibling covers 10G/25G fleet-migration deployments. Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty. Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Cisco SFP-25G-SR-S compatible work on Nexus 9000 without the service unsupported-transceiver command?

Yes. EdgeOptic codes Cisco compatibles with Cisco-recognized EEPROM, so NX-OS accepts the SFP-25G-SR-S as a supported transceiver at link-up and during show inventory output without requiring the service unsupported-transceiver command. The same applies on IOS XE for Catalyst 9500 hosts and UCS fabric interconnects. Verify per-chassis qualification against Cisco's Transceiver Module Compatibility Matrix (tmgmatrix.cisco.com).

Does the SFP-25G-SR-S require RS-FEC on the host port?

Yes. SFP-25G-SR-S requires RS-FEC (Clause 91, RS(528,514)) on the host-side 25G port per IEEE 802.3by Clause 112. FC-FEC (Firecode) is not sufficient to bring the link up. Verify the host port FEC profile is set to RS-FEC before inserting the module; some platforms configure FEC within policy groups that may default to alternative FEC modes.

What is the difference between SFP-25G-SR-S and Cisco's CSR-S dual-rate sibling?

SFP-25G-SR-S is a 25G-only SR module for 25GBASE-SR ports. Cisco's CSR-S dual-rate sibling operates at both 10GBASE-SR and 25GBASE-SR with extended OM3 reach, intended for 10G-to-25G fleet migration scenarios where a single SKU needs to cover both link speeds. The SR-S is the right choice for pure 25G deployments. For the exact CSR-S part number, reach figures, and platform qualification, consult Cisco's 25GBASE SFP28 Modules Data Sheet.

Is SFP-25G-SR-S= the same module as SFP-25G-SR-S?

Yes. SFP-25G-SR-S= is Cisco's spare PID (standalone orderable code) for the same SFP-25G-SR-S module. The trailing '=' suffix is Cisco's ordering convention indicating the part is ordered separately rather than bundled with a chassis. Optical and electrical specification, EEPROM coding, and platform compatibility are identical to the SFP-25G-SR-S.
