Dell (Force10) compatible 407-BBYM Description

EdgeOptic's 407-BBYM compatible is a Dell-coded 100G SR-BiDi version of the EdgeOptic multi-vendor 100G BiDi QSFP28 transceiver. It moves 100 Gigabit Ethernet over a single pair of multimode fibers using two 50G PAM4 lanes, with a VCSEL transmitter at 850 nm on one strand and 900 nm on the other, and a wideband PIN photodiode receiver that covers 832 to 918 nm. The duplex LC/UPC interface carries both directions over two fibers, which lets a 100G BiDi link reuse the same duplex MMF plant already deployed for 10G and 40G.

The same module is used at both ends of the link. Each transceiver transmits and receives across the wideband window, and the TX and RX wavelengths cross over at the far end, so there is no separate complementary part to order. Reach is 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4, and 150 m on OM5, derived from a 1.9 dB average link budget and typical industry MMF attenuation. Host-side RS-FEC is required for the 100GBASE SR-BiDi link to close. Treat the stated distances as planning figures and validate the loss on each installed fiber run during commissioning.

407-BBYM is Dell's order code for this optic. The same physical transceiver is also documented under the descriptive model name Q28-100G-BIDI and the alternate part number 0X9CT. If a colleague is searching for the Q28-100G-BIDI, it is the identical module under a different Dell designation. EdgeOptic codes this compatible with Dell-recognized EEPROM so it reports correctly to PowerSwitch S-series and Z-series and Force10 platforms. Works on Dell PowerSwitch chassis as listed in Dell's transceiver compatibility matrix; verify the entry for your specific chassis and firmware version before deployment. The module reports temperature, voltage, bias, and optical power through DOM/DDM and operates across the 0 to 70 C commercial range.

Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms. Made to order, 2-week lead time, lifetime warranty included. For deployment questions or bulk pricing, contact our sales team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dell 407-BBYM the same as Q28-100G-BIDI?

Yes. 407-BBYM is Dell's order code, Q28-100G-BIDI is the descriptive model name, and 0X9CT is a third alternate part number. All three refer to the same physical 100G SR-BiDi QSFP28 transceiver. Engineers ordering through Dell's configurator usually see 407-BBYM, while product pages and legacy Force10 documentation reference Q28-100G-BIDI. The EdgeOptic compatible covers either designation.

Which Dell PowerSwitch platforms work with the 407-BBYM compatible?

Dell lists this 100G SR-BiDi optic for PowerSwitch S-series and Z-series chassis such as the S5248F-ON, S6100-ON, Z9100-ON, Z9264F-ON, and Z9332F-ON. Platform support depends on chassis model and firmware version, so verify the entry for your hardware against Dell's transceiver compatibility matrix before deployment. The EdgeOptic compatible is coded with Dell-recognized EEPROM so it reports correctly on these platforms.
