Dell (Force10) compatible FTLX1471D3BCL-FC Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver coded for Dell FTLX1471D3BCL-FC compatibility. It operates at 1310nm over single-mode fiber to 10km with a duplex LC/UPC connector. The module is Dell EEPROM coded and recognized on Dell OS9 and OS10 platforms without requiring the “allow unsupported-transceiver” command.
Transmit side uses a 1310nm DFB laser with a PIN photodiode receiver. Link budget is 6dB over G.652 single-mode fiber. Line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with 64B/66B encoding per IEEE 802.3ae.
Compatible with Dell PowerSwitch S4048-ON, S4112-ON, S4148-ON, S5212F-ON, S5224F-ON, S5232F-ON, S5248F-ON, Z9100-ON, and Z9264F-ON data center switches. Dell N-series campus switches with SFP+ uplinks (N3024, N3048, N3132PX-ON) and legacy Force10 S4810 are also supported.
FTLX1471D3BCL-FC is a Finisar (now Coherent) part number where the -FC suffix indicates Dell/Force10 EEPROM coding. The base FTLX1471D3BCL is the same hardware without vendor coding. Dell also references this specification under ordering SKUs 407-BBOP and 331-5310, legacy code GP-10GSFP-1L, and Dell DP/N numbers RN84N and T307D.
Supports DDM per SFF-8472 for real-time optical monitoring. MSA compliant (SFF-8431, IEEE 802.3ae), Class 1 laser safe (IEC 60825-1), CE/RoHS certified, rated 0°C to 70°C.
Operates over G.652 single-mode fiber (OS1/OS2 compliant). On short patch runs, an inline attenuator may be needed to keep received power below the overload threshold.
G.652 single-mode fiber has an attenuation of approximately 0.35 dB/km at 1310nm. Over a 10km span, fiber loss consumes about 3.5 dB of the optical power budget. Connector insertion loss runs 0.5 dB per mated UPC pair; fusion splices add 0.1 dB each. A 10km link with two connector pairs and a few splices consumes roughly 4.5–5 dB, leaving 1–1.5 dB of margin against the 6 dB budget.
10GBASE-LR covers enterprise and campus backbones, inter-building links, metro access and aggregation rings, carrier backhaul, and dark-fiber DCI. The 10km reach is sufficient for most metro and enterprise applications without moving to longer-reach ER or ZR optics. For spans near the 10km limit, measure installed attenuation with an OTDR or optical loss meter before commissioning.
LC connector endfaces should be inspected and cleaned before every mate. Contaminated or scratched connectors are a common cause of link degradation at 10G rates: a single particle larger than the mode field diameter can add several dB of loss. Use IEC 61300-3-35 visual inspection grading and dry or wet cleaning methods before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between FTLX1471D3BCL and FTLX1471D3BCL-FC?
Same hardware, different EEPROM coding. FTLX1471D3BCL is the generic Finisar 10GBASE-LR SFP+ module. The -FC suffix means Dell/Force10 coding is programmed into the EEPROM, so Dell switches recognize it without unsupported-transceiver warnings.
Does Dell block third-party SFP+ optics?
Dell uses soft-locking. Non-Dell optics typically link up but generate persistent unsupported-transceiver syslog messages. The “allow unsupported-transceiver” command (OS9/OS10) suppresses these warnings. Dell-coded compatible modules bypass this and show as qualified in the CLI.
What Dell part numbers match the FTLX1471D3BCL-FC?
Dell uses multiple part numbers for the same 10GBASE-LR SFP+ module: 407-BBOP (current ordering SKU), 331-5310 (earlier ordering SKU), GP-10GSFP-1L (Force10 legacy), and Dell DP/N numbers RN84N and T307D on the physical label.
