Q28-100G-BIDI Dell Compatible 100G QSFP28 SR-BiDi Transceiver

EdgeOptic's Q28-100G-BIDI compatible is a Dell-coded 100G SR-BiDi version of the EdgeOptic multi-vendor 100G BiDi transceiver. It is a QSFP28 module that carries 100 Gigabit Ethernet as 2x50G PAM4 over a single duplex LC/UPC pair of multimode fiber, replacing the eight-fiber parallel runs that conventional 100G SR4 requires. The same EEPROM platform ships under multiple vendor codes; this listing carries the Dell coding.

Q28-100G-BIDI is Dell's descriptive model name for this optic, carried over from legacy Force10 documentation. The same transceiver is sold under the Dell order code 407-BBYM. If you are matching a part number from a Dell configurator or order, the 407-BBYM has its own listing. Both designations point to the same physical module.

Each lane transmits at 850 nm on one fiber and 900 nm on the other, with a wideband receiver covering 832 to 918 nm so the module reads either wavelength at each end. Because of that, the identical module goes in both ends of the link. There is no complementary far-end part to order; cross the duplex LC so each transmitter meets the opposite receiver. Optics are VCSEL transmitters with PIN photodiode receivers, and the average link budget is 1.9 dB. Reach is 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4, and 150 m on OM5. DOM diagnostics report temperature, supply voltage, TX bias, and optical power.

The host port supplies forward error correction; the module relies on host FEC rather than running its own. The 100G host-side electrical interface is CAUI-4. Operating temperature is the commercial 0 to 70 C range. The module is QSFP28 MSA compliant and CE and RoHS certified.

This module works on Dell PowerSwitch S-series and Z-series platforms such as the S5248F-ON, S6100-ON, Z9100-ON, Z9264F-ON, and Z9332F-ON in their Ethernet switching roles. Dell switching platforms are Ethernet-only, so SONET, OTN, and Fibre Channel applications do not apply here.
