Dell (Force10) compatible Q28-100G-SR4 Description
EdgeOptic's Q28-100G-SR4 compatible is a Dell-coded 100GBASE-SR4 version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-100 multi-vendor 100GBASE-SR4 transceiver, one universal short-reach module coded for multiple vendor platforms. It carries 100G Ethernet over four parallel 850 nm VCSEL lanes at 25G each across multimode fiber, terminated on an MTP/MPO-12 (UPC) connector using 8 active fibers, 4 transmit and 4 receive. The transceiver port is female and unpinned; the patch cable is the pinned male side. Reach is 100 m over OM4 and 70 m over OM3, per IEEE 802.3bm Clause 95.
Optical specifications include a 1.9 dB average link budget, receiver sensitivity of −10.3 dBm per lane, NRZ modulation, and no FEC required at this reach. The transmitter uses 850 nm VCSELs; the receiver is a PIN photodiode. OM4 supports the full 100 m while OM3 is rated to 70 m, with achievable distance depending on patch panels, splices, and connector cleanliness in the installed link. DDM/DOM is supported through SFF-8636, so the host reads per-lane transmit power, receive power, and laser bias plus module temperature and supply voltage. The module operates across the 0°C to 70°C commercial range at up to 3.5 W and is compliant with the QSFP28 MSA and SFF-8665. This is a 100G Ethernet short-reach optic; it does not carry Fibre Channel, OTN, or SONET traffic.
Q28-100G-SR4 is a Dell Force10 ordering code for the standard 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 module, distinct from the extended-reach Q28-100GESR4. It is used on Dell PowerSwitch S-series and Z-series switches with 100G QSFP28 ports. EdgeOptic codes this compatible with Dell-recognized EEPROM so the host accepts it on supported platforms. Confirm the specific switch model and line card against the Dell compatibility matrix before deployment. Typical roles include data center core interconnects, ISP aggregation, and mobile operator core networks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Dell Q28-100G-SR4 and Q28-100GESR4, and are they interchangeable?
They are different reach classes on the same 850 nm parallel MMF platform. Q28-100G-SR4 is the standard 100GBASE-SR4 module rated to 100 m on OM4 and 70 m on OM3. Q28-100GESR4 is Dell's ESR4 build rated for extended reach up to 300 m on OM4. They are interchangeable for SR4 links inside the 100 m range, but an ESR4 span beyond that distance needs the extended-reach part. This EdgeOptic compatible covers the standard SR4 100 m application; match the part number to the distance the link requires.
