Dell (Force10) compatible SFP-8GFC-LW Description

SFP-8GFC-LW is Dell’s part number for an 8G Fibre Channel long-wavelength SFP+ transceiver, used in Dell/EMC Connectrix SAN switching environments. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform and ships with Dell-recognized EEPROM coding. The module supports multi-rate Fibre Channel operation at 4GFC (4.25 Gbps) and 8GFC (8.5 Gbps), matching the original Dell specification for dual-rate FC long-wave optics.

The transmitter is a 1310 nm DFB laser paired with a PIN photodiode receiver. Optical reach is rated to 10 km over G.652 single-mode fiber using duplex LC/UPC connectors. The module conforms to SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 for the mechanical and electrical SFP+ interface, and SFF-8472 for digital diagnostics monitoring. FC-PI specifications govern the Fibre Channel signaling parameters at both 4GFC and 8GFC rates. DDM provides real-time telemetry for Tx optical power, Rx optical power, temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C (commercial grade).

Dell’s Connectrix product line is OEM’d from Brocade (now Broadcom). The SFP-8GFC-LW is functionally equivalent to the Brocade 57-0000089-01 and appears in Connectrix SAN switch families including the DS-6600B, DS-6610B, and DS-6630B series. These switches are common in Dell/EMC storage environments paired with VNX, Unity, PowerStore, and PowerMax arrays. EdgeOptic’s Dell-coded compatible is recognized by the Connectrix firmware (Brocade Fabric OS under Dell branding) as a supported transceiver, and DDM telemetry reports through both the FOS CLI and Dell SAN management tools such as Connectrix Manager.

The dual-rate 4GFC/8GFC capability means the module auto-negotiates to the correct Fibre Channel speed based on the host port configuration. SAN environments that still have a mix of 4G and 8G FC infrastructure can standardize on a single optic SKU for all long-wave links, simplifying spare inventory. The 10G-SFP-10 platform that underlies this compatible also supports 10GBASE-LR Ethernet, but in the Dell SFP-8GFC-LW configuration the EEPROM is coded specifically for Fibre Channel use on Dell/Connectrix platforms. FC host bus adapters (HBAs) from QLogic and Emulex in Dell servers also accept 8GFC SFP+ optics for direct-attach storage connectivity over single-mode fiber.

EdgeOptic backs this compatible with a lifetime warranty and CE/RoHS certification. For bulk SAN optic orders or questions about specific Connectrix platform compatibility, contact our sales team

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Dell SFP-8GFC-LW the same as the Brocade 57-0000089-01?

Dell’s Connectrix switches are OEM’d from Brocade (now Broadcom). The SFP-8GFC-LW is Dell’s ordering code for the same 8GFC long-wave optic specification. EdgeOptic produces separate compatible SKUs for Dell and Brocade, each with the correct EEPROM coding for the respective vendor.

Does the SFP-8GFC-LW support both 4GFC and 8GFC speeds?

Yes. The module is dual-rate and auto-negotiates between 4GFC (4.25 Gbps) and 8GFC (8.5 Gbps) based on the host port configuration. This covers mixed-speed SAN environments where some ports still operate at 4G Fibre Channel.

Which Dell Connectrix switches accept the SFP-8GFC-LW?

The SFP-8GFC-LW appears in Dell compatibility lists for the Connectrix DS-6600B, DS-6610B, DS-6630B, and related Brocade-based SAN switch models. FC HBAs in Dell servers (QLogic and Emulex) also accept 8GFC SFP+ optics.
