Edgecore Networks compatible ET5402-RJ45 Description

EdgeOptic's Edgecore ET5402-RJ45 compatible is an Edgecore-coded 10GBASE-T copper SFP+ transceiver for Edgecore AS-series white-box switches. EdgeOptic programs the module EEPROM to match the Edgecore ET5402-RJ45 vendor profile so the transceiver enumerates identically to the OEM part on AS-series hardware that references this ordering code in its transceiver compatibility documentation.

Edgecore's AS-series platforms are ONIE-based white-box switches, designed to run multiple network operating systems on the same hardware. Confirmed platform context includes AS5812, AS5835-54T (also catalogued as DCS201 through Stordis), AS7326, AS7712 and AS7726. The ET5402-RJ45 is qualified across the NOS options these platforms support: Enterprise SONiC (Edgecore build, with transceiver DDMI exposed via the standard show interface transceiver detail path), Community SONiC (ONIE installer path), OcNOS from IP Infusion (used on AS5835-54T and AS7535-28XB / CSR440), ICOS (Edgecore's own NOS), PicOS, and Cumulus Linux on ONIE-qualified hardware.

NOS flexibility is the practical reason to evaluate an Edgecore-coded copper transceiver as part of a white-box deployment: the EEPROM profile needs to enumerate across every NOS the platform might run over its service life. EdgeOptic's compatible uses Edgecore's vendor profile, which is the profile each Edgecore-ported NOS expects. DDMI output on SONiC and OcNOS returns copper-scope telemetry: case temperature, supply voltage, and link status. Optical power fields are not reported because a copper module has no laser.

The transceiver operates per IEEE 802.3an for 10GBASE-T and IEEE 802.3bz for 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T, with 1000BASE-T multi-rate fallback; multi-rate negotiation depends on both the transceiver and the switch ASIC / NOS port configuration. Reach is 30 m at 10G on Cat6a or Cat7. Electrical and management interfaces follow SFF-8431 and SFF-8432. Operating temperature covers 0 to 65 °C commercial grade with CE and RoHS certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ET5402-RJ45 show up correctly in show interface transceiver detail on Enterprise SONiC?

Yes. Edgecore Enterprise SONiC exposes transceiver DDMI via the standard show interface transceiver detail command, and an Edgecore-coded copper module enumerates on that path. For a copper transceiver the returned fields are scoped to case temperature, supply voltage and link status; optical power fields are empty because a 10GBASE-T module has no laser. Older Community SONiC builds had I2C detection issues on some AS-series hardware; those are resolved in current builds and are not specific to this module.

Will the ET5402-RJ45 work with OcNOS on an AS5835-54T (DCS201) without extra configuration?

Yes. IP Infusion's OcNOS is one of the NOS options Edgecore qualifies on AS5835-54T (DCS201 in the Stordis catalogue), and Edgecore's own ET5402-RJ45 is pre-qualified for that pairing. The EdgeOptic compatible uses the same Edgecore-coded EEPROM, so the transceiver enumerates on OcNOS without additional NOS-side configuration. Port speed, FEC and auto-negotiation still follow normal OcNOS interface configuration as with the OEM module.

Does the ET5402-RJ45 support 2.5G and 5G NBASE-T speeds on Edgecore AS-series switches?

The transceiver chipset supports 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10G per IEEE 802.3an and 802.3bz. Whether a specific AS-series switch negotiates 2.5G or 5G on an SFP+ port depends on the switch ASIC and the port configuration under the chosen NOS; some white-box NOS builds restrict SFP+ ports to 1G and 10G only. Verify multi-rate negotiation in the NOS port profile for the platform before provisioning 2.5G or 5G client links.
