Edgecore Networks compatible ET7502-FR4 Description
ET7502-FR4 is Edgecore's 400GBASE-FR4 QSFP-DD, qualified for CSR440, DCS240, DCS510, and DCS810 platforms. EdgeOptic's compatible is a direct drop-in for this module. As a white-box and open networking vendor, Edgecore deploys the ET7502-FR4 primarily in SONiC and other open NOS environments running disaggregated networking.
Four CWDM wavelengths (1271/1291/1311/1331 nm), PAM4. Electrical side: 8x53.125 Gbps lanes to the host ASIC, converted internally to 4x106.25 Gbps optical lanes for 400G aggregate. LC duplex connector, OS2 single-mode fiber, 2 km maximum reach. Budget: 4.0 dB (TX -3.3 to +3.5 dBm, RX -7.3 dBm). Under 11W power consumption. Details on the 400GBASE-FR4 product page.
Pre-qualified for Edgecore CSR440, DCS240, DCS510, DCS810. These platforms run various NOS options -- SONiC is the most common, but not the only one. As a QSFP-DD MSA compliant module, it interoperates with any MSA-compliant host given correct EEPROM coding. EdgeOptic can code it for the specific target platform.
In SONiC environments, transceiver detection runs through platform-specific media settings and CMIS initialization routines. EdgeOptic's compatible follows QSFP-DD MSA electrical specs and CMIS 4.0 management, so SONiC recognizes it and populates the DOM fields in STATE_DB correctly. On ONIE-based installations, the standard xcvrd (transceiver daemon) handles module init automatically. Verify that the SONiC build version supports 400G FR4 QSFP-DD in the platform media_settings.json configuration file -- older builds sometimes omit newer transceiver types, though adding the entry manually is straightforward.
DOM via I2C per CMIS 4.0 -- TX/RX optical power per lane, temperature, laser bias current, supply voltage. All readable through standard NOS diagnostic commands. IEEE 802.3cu-2021, 100G Lambda MSA, QSFP-DD MSA compliant. RoHS compliant. 0 to 70 C commercial operating temperature.
4.0 dB of link budget covers 2 km with margin. Typical loss on a real-world 2 km link: about 0.4 dB fiber attenuation (0.2 dB/km) plus roughly 0.5 dB per LC mated pair -- approximately 1.4 dB total with two connector pairs. That leaves over 2.5 dB of margin for patch panels, splices, and fiber aging. More than sufficient in most structured cabling environments. Single-mode fiber only -- do not use OM3 or OM4 multimode.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Edgecore ET7502-FR4 compatible only with Edgecore switches?
Edgecore pre-qualifies it for their platforms (CSR440, DCS240, DCS510, DCS810), but as a QSFP-DD MSA module it works in any MSA-compliant host with correct EEPROM. EdgeOptic can code it for the specific target platform.
