Edgecore Networks compatible ET7502-FR4 Description
EdgeOptic's ET7502-FR4 compatible is an Edgecore-coded 400GBASE-FR4 QSFP-DD transceiver that drops into Edgecore QSFP-DD switches without unsupported-transceiver alerts. Same 2 km duplex single-mode reach, same LC/UPC connector, and same optical and electrical envelope as the original Edgecore part, with EEPROM coded so the chassis recognizes the module on insertion.
Four CWDM wavelengths at 1271, 1291, 1311, and 1331 nm multiplex onto a single duplex pair. PAM4 modulation at 53.125 GBaud per lane delivers 400 Gb/s aggregate throughput. EML transmitters drive each wavelength channel; PIN photodiode receivers handle the inbound side. TX power is -3.3 to +3.5 dBm per lane, RX sensitivity is -7.3 dBm. The 4 dB optical link budget covers a 2 km OS2 span with margin for patch panels and splices in normal data center cabling environments. The host-side electrical interface is 400GAUI-8 with eight 53.125 Gbps PAM4 lanes.
Works on Edgecore DCS510 (AS9716-32D) and DCS810, both 32-port 400G QSFP-DD data center switches. Verify the ET7502-FR4 against Edgecore's compatibility documentation for the specific platform and SONiC or other NOS release before ordering. EdgeOptic codes the EEPROM with Edgecore-recognized vendor identifiers, so the module is accepted natively on the host as long as the platform supports the QSFP-DD form factor.
Don't confuse the ET7502-FR4 with the ET7502-DR4. The ET7502-FR4 is FR4: CWDM wavelength multiplexing onto a duplex LC connector, 2 km reach over single-mode fiber. The ET7502-DR4 is DR4: a single 1310 nm wavelength on each of four parallel single-mode fibers via an MTP/MPO connector, 500 m reach. Same Edgecore prefix and same QSFP-DD form factor, but different wavelength plan, different connector, and different reach class. Verify the exact suffix on the chassis transceiver table or purchase order before requesting a substitute.
In SONiC environments, transceiver detection runs through CMIS initialization. CMIS 4.0 management exposes per-lane TX and RX optical power, module case temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current over standard I2C, enabling transceiver diagnostics through standard NOS monitoring commands. Verify that the SONiC build and platform configuration support 400GBASE-FR4 QSFP-DD transceivers before deploying; check Edgecore's SONiC compatibility documentation at support.edge-core.com for the specific platform and software release.
Conforms to IEEE 802.3cu, 100G Lambda MSA 400G-FR4, QSFP-DD MSA, and CMIS 4.0. KP4 RS-FEC (RS(544,514)) is required from the host ASIC to meet the PAM4 BER target. Class 1 laser safe per IEC 60825-1, CE and RoHS certified, commercial temperature 0 to 70 °C, under 10 W power consumption, +3.3 V single supply. The 4 dB link budget at 2 km leaves comfortable margin in typical structured cabling: about 0.4 dB of fiber attenuation at 0.2 dB/km plus roughly 0.5 dB per LC mated pair, around 1.4 dB of expected loss with two connector pairs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ET7502-FR4 use LC duplex or MPO connectors?
LC duplex. The ET7502-FR4 is 400GBASE-FR4, which multiplexes four CWDM wavelengths (1271/1291/1311/1331 nm) onto a single duplex single-mode fiber pair, terminated with an LC/UPC connector and reaching up to 2 km. The Edgecore sibling that uses MPO is the ET7502-DR4, which is 400GBASE-DR4 with four parallel 1310 nm lanes on an MTP/MPO connector and 500 m reach. Confirm the suffix on the chassis transceiver table or installed module label before ordering a substitute, since the FR4 and DR4 modules require different fiber plant.
Which Edgecore switches accept the ET7502-FR4?
The ET7502-FR4 targets Edgecore platforms with QSFP-DD client ports, including the DCS510 (AS9716-32D) and DCS810, both 32-port 400G QSFP-DD switches. Verify against Edgecore's compatibility documentation for the specific platform and SONiC release before ordering. The ET7502-FR4 will not seat in QSFP28 (100G) ports such as the CSR440 or DCS240; the form factor itself is incompatible. EdgeOptic codes the EEPROM for Edgecore so the module is accepted natively on QSFP-DD-equipped hosts, and can also code for Cisco, Arista, Juniper, and other targets when the same FR4 module is needed in a mixed-vendor site.
