Extreme compatible 100G-4WDM-QSFP40KM Description

EdgeOptic's 100G-4WDM-QSFP40KM compatible is an Extreme Networks-coded 100GBASE-4WDM-40 QSFP28 transceiver built to the 4WDM-40 MSA. It mirrors the Extreme part 100G-4WDM-QSFP40KM described in the Extreme Networks pluggable transceiver and cable manual as a 100G 4WDM QSFP28, LC, 40 km, single-mode fiber module that requires host RS-FEC for the full reach.

Optical layer uses four LAN-WDM channels at 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, and 1309.14 nm, each carrying 25.78125 Gb/s NRZ. Cooled EML transmitters land between -2 dBm and +4 dBm per lane, and APD receivers reach -21 dBm sensitivity with -1 dBm overload. Optical link budget is 22 dB with host-side RS-FEC engaged for the full 40 km reach over G.652 SMF, or 18 dB without FEC at shorter distance. Host RS-FEC is required for the 40 km application.

Protocol scope is 100GE only. The 4WDM-40 MSA defines a 100GBASE application with KR4 FEC and does not extend to OTU4 or Fibre Channel. Use this module for 100GBASE-4WDM-40 ports only.

Compatible with Extreme Networks platforms supporting 100GBASE-4WDM-40 in the QSFP28 cage. Verify the specific Extreme switch and software release, and the far-end module compatibility, against the Extreme optics compatibility tool before deployment. It is not interoperable with 100GBASE-4WDM-10 or 100GBASE-CWDM4 modules; the wavelength plan and link-budget targets differ. Verify the specific Extreme switch and software release against the Extreme optics compatibility tool before deployment.

EEPROM is coded for Extreme Networks recognition. DOM is supported through the standard QSFP28 SFF-8636 page map for temperature, supply voltage, laser bias, transmit power, and per-lane receive power. Form factor is QSFP28 duplex LC PC/UPC; module power 4.5 W maximum; commercial operating temperature 0 to +70 C.
