Extreme compatible 10302 Description

10302 is Extreme Networks’ part number for a 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver used across the ExtremeSwitching and ExtremeRouting product lines. EdgeOptic’s compatible replacement is built on our 10G-SFP-10 platform and ships with Extreme-recognized EEPROM coding. The module is a direct functional replacement for the original Extreme optic across both EXOS-based and VOSS-based switching platforms in the current portfolio.

Optical parameters follow the IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-LR specification: 1310 nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, delivering up to 10 km reach over G.652 single-mode fiber through duplex LC/UPC connectors. The line rate is 10.3125 Gbps with a link budget of approximately 6.3 dB maximum channel insertion loss. The module conforms to SFF-8431 and SFF-8432 for the electrical and mechanical SFP+ interface, and SFF-8472 for digital diagnostics monitoring. DDM provides real-time readings of Tx optical power, Rx optical power, temperature, supply voltage, and laser bias current. Commercial operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.

The 10302 is referenced across Extreme’s current and previous-generation platforms. Common deployment targets include the X460-G2 (campus aggregation and distribution layer), X670-G2 (data center leaf/spine and high-density aggregation), X690 (10G-dense campus core and aggregation), and VSP 7400 (VOSS-based fabric switching). It also appears in Summit-era compatibility lists for the older X670 and X480 series. Both EXOS and VOSS firmware support full DDM reporting for the 10302, and EdgeOptic’s compatible provides identical telemetry accessible through the CLI and SNMP polling.

Extreme Networks uses a straightforward four-digit numbering scheme for SFP+ transceiver SKUs: 10301 for 10GBASE-SR (850 nm multimode), 10302 for 10GBASE-LR (1310 nm single-mode), and 10303 for 10GBASE-ER (1550 nm extended reach). Don’t confuse the 10302 with part numbers from Extreme’s earlier 10 Gigabit line where different numbering applied. For current EXOS and VOSS software releases, the 10302 remains the active ordering code for 10GBASE-LR. In campus network designs, the 10302 is commonly used for 10 GbE uplinks between access-layer X460-G2 stacks and core X690 or X670-G2 switches, covering inter-building fiber runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Extreme 10301, 10302, and 10303?

10301 is Extreme’s 10GBASE-SR (850 nm, multimode, 300 m). 10302 is the 10GBASE-LR (1310 nm, single-mode, 10 km). 10303 is the 10GBASE-ER (1550 nm, single-mode, 40 km). All three are SFP+ form factor and follow the same four-digit Extreme numbering convention.

Does the 10302 compatible work on both EXOS and VOSS platforms?

Yes. EdgeOptic codes the module with Extreme-recognized EEPROM. Both EXOS-based switches (X460-G2, X670-G2, X690) and VOSS-based platforms (VSP 7400) accept the compatible and report DDM values normally through their respective CLI and SNMP interfaces.

Which Extreme platforms support the 10302?

The 10302 is listed for the X460-G2, X670-G2, X690, VSP 7400, and earlier Summit-era platforms (X670, X480). Check Extreme’s transceiver compatibility matrix for the specific firmware version running on the target switch.

Can the EdgeOptic 10302 compatible be used in Extreme MLAG or stacking configurations?

10GBASE-LR SFP+ modules are commonly used for inter-switch links in Extreme MLAG and SummitStack topologies. The EdgeOptic compatible functions identically to the original 10302 in these configurations, with full DDM and link monitoring support through EXOS.
