Extreme compatible 10404 Description
EdgeOptic's 10404 compatible is an Extreme Networks-coded version of the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-2.1 multi-vendor 100G CWDM4 QSFP28 transceiver. Extreme Networks lists this ordering code, also published as 100G-CWDM4-QSFP2KM, and the EdgeOptic compatible carries EEPROM coding so the optic reports as a recognized 100G CWDM4 part in Extreme Networks QSFP28 ports that accept CWDM4 modules.
Built to the 100G CWDM4 MSA and 100G CLR4 Alliance specification, the module carries four NRZ lanes on the CWDM grid at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm and multiplexes them onto a single duplex LC single-mode pair. The coarse WDM spacing follows ITU-T G.694.2, the wavelength plan that defines the CWDM4 2 km reach class. DML transmitters drive PIN receivers, and the optic supports 2 km over G.652 SMF. Digital diagnostics report temperature, supply voltage, laser bias, and per-lane optical power through the SFF-8636 and SFF-8665 management interface. Operating temperature is commercial 0 to 70°C, and the QSFP28 housing seats in any standard QSFP28 cage.
On the Ethernet side, the EdgeOptic 100G-QSFP28-2.1 hardware behind this code is rated for 100G Ethernet, 4x32G Fibre Channel, and OTU4. Extreme Networks switching uses the 10404 code for 100G Ethernet ports. For a span that needs the Fibre Channel or OTU4 service on the module, contact our sales team to confirm the correct part for the application.
Extreme Networks documents 10404 as the CWDM4 2 km part and 10403 as the LR4 10 km part, and notes the two are not interchangeable because CWDM4 and LR4 use different wavelengths. Match the ordering code to the link distance, keep both ends of a link on the same CWDM4 optical class, and verify port support on the Extreme Optics Compatibility documentation for the target switch. Single-mode fiber with a clean duplex LC termination is required at both ends of the span.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Extreme Networks 10404 and 10403?
10404 is the 100G CWDM4 QSFP28 part for 2 km over single-mode fiber, on the CWDM grid at 1271 to 1331 nm. 10403 is the 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 part for 10 km. Extreme Networks documents that the two use different wavelengths and are not compatible with each other, so order against the planned link distance and do not mix CWDM4 and LR4 on the same link.
