Extreme compatible 10GB-BX10-D Description
EdgeOptic's 10GB-BX10-D compatible is an Extreme-coded Tx1330/Rx1270 version of the EdgeOptic BIDI-10G-SFP-20B multi-vendor 10G BiDi SFP+ transceiver. It carries Extreme-recognized identification data, so ExtremeXOS and ExtremeSwitching platforms with 10G SFP+ ports read it as a matching module. The D designation marks the downstream B-side of a bidirectional pair, transmitting at 1330 nm and receiving at 1270 nm over a single strand of single-mode fiber.
Extreme rates the original 10GB-BX10-D for up to 10 km. The EdgeOptic compatible runs the BIDI-10G-SFP-20B platform with a 9 dB link budget rated for spans up to 20 km, which makes it a direct drop-in for any 10 km Extreme deployment. The extra budget covers connector loss, splice loss, and fiber aging on the span. RX overload of +4 dBm exceeds 0 dBm maximum transmit power, so a short link between two of these modules will not saturate the receiver.
The 10GB-BX10-D pairs with an upstream A-side module at the remote end: transmit at 1270 nm, receive at 1330 nm. The Extreme match is the 10GB-BX10-U. Both endpoints must carry opposite wavelength directions for the link to come up. The optical interface uses a DFB laser transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver. Transmit power runs from −5 dBm to 0 dBm, receiver sensitivity is better than −14.5 dBm. The module uses a single LC/UPC connector, runs on a +3.3 V supply across a 0 to 70 C operating range, and supports digital optical monitoring per SFF-8472. Build compliance follows the SFP MSA and SFF-8431, with Class 1 laser rating per IEC 60825-1.
The module handles 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet traffic across Extreme campus switches with 10G SFP+ ports. For deployment on a specific switch model, verify the part against the Extreme transceiver compatibility matrix for that chassis, or contact our sales team.
Backed by 15+ years of EdgeOptic compatibility engineering across vendor optical platforms, the 10GB-BX10-D compatible ships next business day from EU stock with a lifetime warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a 20 km / 9 dB EdgeOptic platform compare with the 10 km Extreme 10GB-BX10-D spec?
The EdgeOptic BIDI-10G-SFP-20B platform delivers a 9 dB link budget, which is rated for spans up to 20 km. Extreme rates the 10GB-BX10-D for 10 km. On a 10 km Extreme link, the extra budget translates into headroom for splice loss, connector loss, and fiber aging rather than additional reach. RX overload of +4 dBm exceeds 0 dBm maximum transmit power, so a short loopback between two of these modules will not saturate the receiver. The compatible is a valid drop-in for any 10 km Extreme deployment.
Can a 10GB-BX10-D be installed at both ends of a fiber link?
No. BiDi modules carry opposite wavelength directions on each endpoint. The 10GB-BX10-D transmits at 1330 nm and receives at 1270 nm, so the remote end needs an upstream module that transmits at 1270 nm and receives at 1330 nm, such as the Extreme 10GB-BX10-U. Two D-side modules at both ends transmit on the same wavelength and the link will not come up. Confirm the upstream and downstream parts are paired correctly before commissioning.
