Extreme compatible 40GB-LR4-QSFP Description
EdgeOptic's 40GB-LR4-QSFP compatible is an Extreme Networks-coded version of the EdgeOptic 40G-QSFP-10 multi-vendor 40GBASE-LR4 transceiver. It delivers 40Gb/s Ethernet over 10 km of single-mode fiber using four CWDM lanes at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm on a duplex LC connector. An Extreme Networks-recognized EEPROM lets ExtremeXOS and SwitchEngine ports detect and enable the module.
The optic transmits with a DFB laser at −6 to +3 dBm per lane and receives on a PIN photodiode rated to −12.6 dBm sensitivity with a +3 dBm overload limit, for a 6.6 dB link budget across the CWDM grid. NRZ modulation carries the 41.25 Gbps 40GbE line rate (four lanes of 10.3125 Gbps). DOM telemetry reports temperature, supply voltage, laser bias, transmit power and receive power over the I2C interface. The module runs across the 0 to 70 °C commercial range.
Built to IEEE 802.3ba Clause 87, INF-8438i and the SFF-8436 QSFP+ MSA, the module matches the Extreme Networks 40GB-LR4-QSFP optical specification for Extreme campus and data center switching. Compatible with ExtremeXOS and SwitchEngine platforms; verify against your switch transceiver compatibility table before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 40GB-LR4-QSFP third-party optic need a license on ExtremeXOS or SwitchEngine?
Some ExtremeXOS releases require a third-party optics license for 40G ports, while later ExtremeXOS and SwitchEngine releases run third-party 40G optics without one. Verify the optics-licensing requirement for the ExtremeXOS or SwitchEngine version on your switch against the Extreme Networks optics compatibility documentation before deploying.
