F5 Networks compatible F5-UPG-SFP+LR-R Description
The EdgeOptic 10G-SFP-10 is a compatible replacement for the F5 Networks F5-UPG-SFP+LR-R 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver. It provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet over single-mode fiber at 1310nm, reaching up to 10km with a duplex LC connector. F5 EEPROM coded for BIG-IP appliances.
The transceiver operates at 10.3125 Gbps, supporting 10GBASE-LR per IEEE 802.3ae. It uses a 1310nm DFB laser transmitter paired with a PIN photodiode receiver, with a minimum link budget of 6dB over standard G.652 single-mode fiber. Dual-rate operation at 1G Ethernet (1.25 Gbps) is also supported on ports that allow rate negotiation.
This module is compatible with F5 BIG-IP i-series (i5000/i7000/i10000), VIPRION chassis blades, and r-series (r5000/r10000) platforms with SFP+ ports.
The F5-UPG prefix denotes a field-upgrade optic purchased separately from the appliance. The trailing -R indicates RoHS compliance. F5 validates optics at boot and may flag non-F5 modules in tmsh. F5-coded compatible modules avoid these warnings.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) is supported per SFF-8472. The module reports TX/RX optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage in real time. CE/RoHS certified, commercial temperature range (0 to 70 °C).

F5 BIG-IP appliances validate optics at boot. Non-F5 modules may trigger “unsupported optic” warnings in tmsh. F5-coded compatible modules like the EdgeOptic version are recognized without warnings and do not affect support eligibility.
